• We recommend that all removed components be retained, and returned to customer upon completion.
• Supercharger is sealed from the factory. Take care to not introduce foreign contaminants into supercharger (once seal is
removed). Damage from foreign contaminants is not covered under warranty.
• Estimated completion time:
1. standard aftercooled supercharger, 2000-05: 14 hrs
2. standard aftercooled supercharger, 2006-09: 12 hrs

Before beginning installation:

• Note that some steps are specific to certain years. Read and note where specific steps are exclusive to certain years.
• For installations with the oil fed supercharger, the oil will be drained to install the oil drain return fittings. This is a good
time to complete an oil change on the vehicle. Have a Honda oil filter (part no. 15400-PCX-004) & oil (10W40
recommended) available.
• 2000-2005 only: ScienceofSpeed strongly recommends factory fuel injectors with more than 60k miles to be professionally
cleaned and flow tested prior to installation of this supercharger system. We recommend RC Engineering for cleaning and
flow testing. RC Engineering: (310) 320-2277.
• Before installing, inspect, wash, and blow dry any components such as inlet, intercooler, oil hoses, and water hoses to
remove any possible contamination.
• Please note that once the installation is complete, ScienceofSpeed recommends dyno testing to verify performance and
fuel curves.

o in excess of 425 bhp: NGK Iridium IX no. 8 (BKR8EIX-11).
• Adjust spark plug gap. Reduce the gap from the factory preset .044" by .004" less for every 50 bhp added. For
example, an application producing a 100 bhp gain should use a .036" gap (.044" - .008"). Be careful to not
damage the fragile electrode.

2
INSTALL FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY (2000-2005 only)
• Open trunk, and remove spare tire trunk panel (3
pull clips). Next, pull back side trunk panel (2
push-in clips). Lastly, remove spare tire assembly.

• In interior, with top up, remove rear trim panel (3

push-in clips). Next, remove rear lower panel. This
will expose the top of the fuel tank.

3
• From the trunk, the four push-in clips securing the
rear lower interior panel will be exposed (see
photo). Using pliers, gently remove these clips and
pop up into the interior.

• Remove fuel tank top panel (3 Phillips screws). Disconnect exposed electrical plug. Lastly, remove fuel hoses.
• Place rags down in interior to catch fuel that will
drip from fuel pump carrier assembly when
removed. Remove fuel pump carrier assembly
from fuel tank by lifting up 2-3" then rotating top of
fuel pump carrier down so that fuel level sensor
float remains in tank then lift assembly out of tank.

IMPORTANT! Take care to not scratch coating on

fuel tank level float. Also, take care to not bend
float arm.

1 fuel pump
• Remove factory fuel pump and inspect filter sock. Clean as needed, then replace pump with supplied pump making
sure to place new pump in same orientation as old pump.

the ignition-on position.

INSTALL AFTERCOOLER PLUG (2006-08 only)

1 plug, ¼” NPT
• Apply supplied Teflon tape to threads of plug and
install into aftercooler as shown.

30
INSTALL AFTERCOOLER
• Drain radiator (about ½ gallon) such that coolant level is slightly below top radiator hose.
• The top radiator hose will be modified to provide
room for the aftercooler. Cut top radiator hose 1 1/8”
from the front of the radiator hose bracket as shown.

Remove cut segment from radiator.

1 hose, 30mm pre-formed "S" shape

1 tube, radiator hose coupler (aluminum)
2 clamp, 25-40mm hose
• Trim 1” from the end of the short end of the “S” pre-
formed hose.

Next, place the short end of the “S” hose over the
radiator fitting – the hose should be tight against the
coolant bottle (note hose location to coolant bottle in
photo). Mark the hose where the cut factory hose
meets the “S” hose and trim the hose to length.
Secure hose to radiator using factory clamp removed
from cut factory hose.

Use supplied aluminum hose coupler and two 25-

40mm hose clamps to secure hoses together.

IMPORTANT! Make sure radiator hose is installed

as shown with hose resting against plastic radiator
expansion tank. If the hose is cut too long, it will rub
against the aftercooler (installed at a later step)
which may result in hose failure.

31
• Route the hoses from behind the frame member into
the engine bay and below the front lateral frame
member as shown.

1 coupler, 2.75" ID x 2.0" long (silicone)

2 clamp, 60-80mm hose

• Next, route the hoses from below to the rear of the

front lateral frame member as shown. Hose “2” will
be placed on the car’s right and hose “1” on the left
as shown.

Install silicone coupler to supercharger as shown

(silicone lubricant can be used to aid installation).
Next, install two 60-80mm hose clamps on to coupler
• with buckles positioned on front of coupler with
adjusting screws exposed on top.

• Before installing aftercooler, thoroughly washer water tanks and air tanks with clean water to remove any contaminants.
Blow with compressed air dry.
1 aftercooler unit

2 clamp, 60-80mm hose
2 clamp, 16-27mm hose

• First, install silicone coupler to top tube (discharge) of aftercooler. Pull coupler on the aftercooler so that only one inch is
exposed (silicone lubricant can be used to aid installation). Place both 60-80mm hose clamps over silicone coupler with
buckles on right (passenger’s) side of aftercooler with adjusting screws pointing up.

Next, lay aftercooler into engine bay and secure hoses to aftercooler. Hose 1 is the water feed to the aftercooler and is
secured to the left side (driver’s side) of the aftercooler (the highest hose barb). Hose 2 is the suction side of the
aftercooler and is secured to the right side (passenger’s side) of the aftercooler (the lowest hose barb).
Verify that the water hoses are ran in the diagrams above correctly.

Next, trim the hose to length. There should be enough hose to lift the aftercooler 3-4” up from position with the hoses
attached.

Lastly, secure hoses to aftercooler unit using supplied 16-27mm hose clamps.
32
• Install aftercooler to supercharger silicone coupler
first, then rotate to be in-line with throttle body. Slight
clocking changes to the rotation of the supercharger
volute may be required. Apply a slight amount of
silicone lubricant to throttle body. Then, push silicone
coupler off aftercooler on to throttle body (force will
be required). Once position of both couplers are
verified, secure four 60-80mm hose clamps in place.

Lastly, secure all six allen socket bolts securing the

volute’s retainer tabs.

IMPORTANT! Aftercooler must not rub S-shaped

upper radiator hose installed in prior step or the
aftercooler may rub a hole into the hose. Make sure
that hose rests against factory plastic radiator
expansion tank, not aftercooler.

33

system. Inspect aftercooler fluid level again and top off. Install fill cap on aftercooler.
• Recheck belt tension.
• Replace bumper (aftercooled only).

40
COMPLETION & DYNO TESTING
• ScienceofSpeed recommends all cars be tested after installation of any forced induction product on a
dynamometer with air fuel ratio logging to verify operation of forced induction components as well as the
vehicle’s fuel system and engine.
• 2000-05 Standard Stage 1 Systems: The fuel system includes a rising rate fuel pressure regulator that increases fuel
ratio relative to boost, a high flow fuel pump, and a fuel/VTEC/MAP electronic controller that refines fuel curves, activates
the VTEC system at a lower RPM, and clamps MAP sensor voltage.

The rising rate regulator is pre-set from the factory. For most cars, there should be no changes required. For reference:

Fuel pressure with intake manifold at atmosphere pressure (let car idle and remove vacuum hose from fuel regulator):
o 2000-2003 S2000 (2.0L): 50 PSI
o 2004-2005 S2000 (2.2L): 58 PSI

Fuel pressure with intake manifold at 6 PSI (generally at engine redline):

o 2000-2003 S2000 (2.0L): 75 PSI
o 2004-2005 S2000 (2.2L): 88 PSI

The fuel pressure curves are shown in the approximate diagram below:

The AFR curves are shown in the approximate diagram below (the curves are smoothed for reference):

The fuel pressure regulator may be adjusted to increase base fuel pressure to match the above AFR curve (especially
useful for cars with aftermarket exhaust systems that increase efficiency. Adjust regulator by loosening jam nut on top of
regulator and threading center stud clockwise or counterclockwise. Clockwise increases fuel pressure. One to two full
turns will yield measurable differences. Do not thread center stud too deep or damage may occur.

• 2006-09 Standard Stage 1 Systems: The fuel system includes larger injectors and a KTuner Flash for reflashing the
factory ECU. A tuned calibration is included. Reference KTuner Flash instructions for ECU flashing procedure These cars
should still be verified on a dyno for proper operation.

41
• Stage 2 & Tuner Systems: These systems include advanced stand alone engine management systems. Proper training
for the operation and tuning of these systems is required. While the boost / AFR curve will follow the approximate trends
above, the tuner ultimately will decide the best tuning for the vehicle’s use.
