LABORATORY ACTIVITY IN VITAL SIGNS

OBJECTIVES:

1. Discuss normal and abnormal temperatures, including factors affecting temperature.

2. Identify and describe normal and abnormal pulse and respiratory rates and the factors affecting each.
3. To introduce on how to properly get the main vital signs.

MATERIALS USED: Sphygmomanometer, digital thermometer, cotton balls, alcohol, stethoscope

NORMAL REFERENCES

TEMPERATURE:

Celsius Scale = 37 C

PULSE RATE:

An older child/ adolescent’s heart rate = about 70-90 beats / minute

Adult’s heart rate = 60-90 beats / minute

RESPIRATION RATE:

Normal Range (adult) = 12-20 beats / minute

BLOOD PRESSURE:

Systolic = 100-140 mmHg

Diastolic = 60-90 mmHg

INTERPRETATION:

Temperature:

There are six patients who are in normal temperature and seven patients have low temperature.

Pulse Rate:

All patients has normal pulse rate.

Respiration:

All patients has normal respiration rate.

Blood Pressure:

There are eleven patients who are in normal range. Therefore, one patient who is in hypotension range
and one patient is in hypertension range.
