Are you planning a visit to Virginia, USA? Then come to Colonial Williamsburg.
In the 1700s, Williamsburg was an important city. It was the capital of the Colony of Virginia and
a centre of the American Revolution. It was also the home of William and Mary College. Three
US presidents were students there. There was a palace with special gardens in Williamsburg.
There were many beautiful houses, a hospital, churches and shops, too.
Colonial Williamsburg is a special area of Williamsburg. Today, it’s a “living museum”.
Everything looks like Williamsburg in the 1700s, including the buildings, transport and people’s
clothes. People in Colonial Williamsburg tell stories about life in the 1700s to thousands of
visitors. Visitors can see the old post office and go shopping at the bakery or sweet shop. They
can have lunch at The Raleigh Tavern, a famous restaurant. George Washington, the first
president of the USA, was at this restaurant many times.
