THE PRESENT SIMPLE

positive: I/you/we/they play he/she/it plays

negative: I/you/we/they do not play he/she/it does not play

questions: do I/you/we/they play? does he/she/it play?

1. For present state: This bike belongs to my brother.


2. For facts: Oxygen is a cemichal element.
3. For repeated actions: My mom works in kindergarden.
4. For things that always happen: Food gives you energy.

THE PRESENT CONTINUOUS


positive: I am playing you/we/they are playing he/she/it is playing
negative: I am not playing you/we/they are not playing he/she/it is not playing
questions: am I playing? are you/we/they playing? is he/she/it playing?

1. For present action we are in the middle of now: I am reading the book.
2. For action that started but is still going on while speaking: Is anyone sitting here?

THE PAST SIMPLE


positive: someone played
negative: someone did not play
questions: did someone play?

1. For action in the past: I saw the film 3 weeks ago.


2. For states: I was a beautiful baby.

THE PAST CONTINUOUS


positive: was/were playing
negative: was/were not playing
questions: was/were__playing?

1. For action in past that lasted: I was living in Zagreb when I was a baby.

THE PRESENT PERFECT


positive: have/has played
negative: have/has not played
questions: have/has__played

1. For action leading up to present: The cafe has just opened.


2. For someone's life up to the present: Have you ever ridden a horse?
3. For repeated actions before now: I have ridden horses lots of times.
