Lesson 1: Resonance

 Point of focus should be at the front and on top of the


bottom row of teeth
 Keep the corners of the mouth pinched closed so that only
the center of the mouth is allowed to move
 Slightly protrude the bottom lip...slightly only
 Keep the tip of the tongue pressed down slightly against the
bottom row of teeth

Lesson 2: Vowels
 Ih becomes “e”-ish: inside, sister, winter, impact
 Eh becomes “a”-ish: expert, rendered, men, twenty
 Oh becomes “oo”-ish: foot, cook, cushion, stood
 Aw becomes “O”-ish: dog, call, awful
 On long vowels that are like diphthongs take just the first
original vowel sound

Lesson 3: Stress and Pitch


 Monotonous
 Keep even tone
 Emphasize more than one syllable gently

Lesson 4: The German “R”


 At the beginning- before a vowel, or after another
consonant and before a vowel: rows, root, truth, front-
tongue stays down by the bottom teeth, back of tongue
gently up to the palate
 After an “E”- Earth, curse, thirsty, lips pursed forward, eart,
 Final “Er” or final “R”- Dodger, runner- “R” sound basically
drops
 If follwed by a word that starts with a vowel then the R will
be pronounced.

Lesson 5: Consonants
 Th- Thin: zt sound
 Th- Wrath: More s-ish
 Th- This: z like zit
 Th- Blithe: Thz
 B- P sound
 Hard G- K sound
 Ing ending- K sound
 Hard D- T sound
 V becomes an F sound
 Z becomes an S sound
 Soft J sound becomes Sh sound
 Hard J sound becomes Ch sound
 Initial W becomes (slight) V sound
 Initial S becomes a Z (sometimes)
