Transmission Oil Pump

Remove Transmission Oil Pump

START BY:

a. remove hydraulic pump *

This operation is in the Vehicle Systems Disassembly And Assembly section.

1. Remove two bolts (2) from each end of tube assembly (1). Remove the tube assembly from the
transmission oil pump and the transfer gear case.

2. Remove four bolts (3), and disconnect tube assembly (4) from the transmission oil pump.

3. Remove six bolts (6) and transmission oil pump (5) from the torque converter housing.

Install Transmission Oil Pump

NOTE: Inspect O-ring seal (1) on the flange for wear or damage, and make a replacement if
necessary. Put clean transmission oil on the O-ring seal prior to installation of the transmission oil
pump.

1. Make sure the O-ring seals are installed in the transmission oil pump, and put clean
transmission oil on them. Put a small amount of oil in the pump, and make several turns of the
gears in the pump before it is installed.

2. Put transmission oil pump (4) in position on the torque converter housing, and install six bolts
(5) that hold it.

3. Make sure the O-ring seal is installed in the end of tube assembly (3), and put clean
transmission oil on it. Put tube assembly (3) in position on the transmission oil pump, and install
four bolts (2) that hold it.

4. Make sure the O-ring seal is installed in the end of tube assembly (6), and put clean
transmission oil on it. Put tube assembly (6) in position, on the transmission oil pump and the
transfer gear case. Install two bolts (7) in each end to hold it.

Disassemble Transmission Oil Pump

START BY:

a. remove transmission oil pump

NOTE: Put identification marks on all of the parts of the transmission oil pump for assembly
purposes.

1. Remove O-ring seal (4) from manifold (3).

2. Remove bolts (1), and separate cover (2) from manifold (3).

3. If necessary, remove bearings (5) from cover (2).

4. Remove gears (6) and (7) from manifold (3).

5. Remove body (8) from manifold (3).

6. Remove four dowels (9) if necessary from body (8).

7. If necessary, remove bearings (10) from manifold (3).

Assemble Transmission Oil Pump

1. Use tool group (A) and a press to install bearings (2) in manifold (3) until they are 1.5 ± 0.5 mm
(.06 ± .02 in.) below the surface of manifold (3). Make sure the bearing joints are 30° ± 15° from
the centerline that runs through both bores in the pump body and toward oil passage (1) as shown.

2. Install four dowels (5) in body (4) until they extend 5.0 ± 0.5 mm (.20 ± .02 in.) above the
surfaces of the body.

3. Install body (4) on manifold (3) as shown.

4. Put clean oil on the bearings, and install gears (6) and (7) in manifold (3) as shown.

5. Use tool group (A) and a press to install bearings (9) in cover (10) until they are 1.5 mm (.06
in.) below the surface of cover (10). Make sure the bearing joints are 30° ± 15° from the centerline
that runs through both bores in the pump body and toward oil passage (8) as shown.

6. Put clean oil on the bearings, and install cover (10) over the gears on body (4).

NOTE: The pump gears must turn freely by hand after bolts (11) are tightened.

7. Install bolts (11) to hold the pump together.

8. Install O-ring seal (12) on the manifold.
