Theoretical Framework

Fresh water generator works through desalination process. It converts seawater to fresh

water for domestic use. In this system, no need to wait for a 100 C because the lesser the

pressure, the faster the water to boil at lowest temperature. This is from Gay-Lussac’s Law

wherein pressure is directly proportional to temperature. When pressure decreases, the water

molecules will spread out and it will create bubbles (boiling). Therefore, it will produce vapor

even though it does not reach 100 C. To create vacuum, we use an Eductor. Eductor works on

the principle of Bernoulli’s energy theorem. It states that an increase in the speed of a fluid

occurs simultaneously with a reduction in pressure.

For the supply of seawater, we use an Ejector pump to pump the fluid inside the system.

In order to achieve Thermal Equilibrium, the temperature needed of the seawater to boil must

equal to the vacuum pressure inside the vessel. To change its phase from liquid to steam, we use

electric heater to add energy. When seawater reach the temperature needed, it will vaporized.

Demister Pad will use for removing entrained liquid droplets from the steam. From second law

of Thermodynamics, heat flows naturally from a body at higher temperature to another body at

a lower temperature. The heat from steam will transfer to the water-cooled condenser through the

process of Convection. Therefore, the vapor will condense and fresh water will produce.

For the supply of electricity, we use Solar Panel as energy harvesting device that works

through Photovoltaic Effect. The battery will be used to store the energy that will be gathered

from solar panel. The energy stored in battery will use an inverter to convert DC output to AC

voltage to power up the pump and heater.
