(Tutorial Sheet-2)

1. In the emitter stabilized biased circuit with ICQ = (1/2) IC(sat), IC(sat) = 8mA , VC =
18V , 𝛽 = 110 and VCC = 28V find the value of RC ,RE and RB .
Answer: RC =2.5 kΩ, RE =1 kΩ, RB =639.8 kΩ
2. Figure shows a fixed bias circuit with 𝛽 = 75.
Determine the following:

a) Value of base current

b) Value of collector current
c) Value of collector to emitter voltage
d) Stability factor (Neglect VBE)

Answer: IB=100µA, Ic=7.5 mA, VCE=14V, S= 76

3. A transistor with 𝛽 = 100 is used in CE configuration. The collector circuit
resistance is RC= 1 kΩ and VCC = 20 V. Assuming VBE = 0, find the value of
collector to base resistance, such that quiescent collector emitter voltage, is 4V.
Also, determine the stability factor in this case.
Answer: RB=25.5 kΩ, S=20.86
4. In common emitter germanium transistor amplifier, self-bias is used. The
various parameters are: VCC = 16 V, RC = 3kΩ, RE = 2kΩ, R1 = 56 kΩ, R2= 20kΩ
and α=0.985. Determine the following:
i. Operating point
ii. Stability factor
Answer: VB=4.21 V, IC=0.63mA, S= 7.40

5. Calculate the stability factor and change in collector current from 25°C to 100°C
for the transistor defined by given table for following emitter bias arrangement :
a) RB / RE = 250 b) RB / RE = 10 Assume 𝛽 = 50.
Temperature (°C) ICO (nA) 𝛽 VBE (V)
-65 0.2*10^-3 20 0.85
25 0.1 50 0.65
100 20 80 0.48
175 3.3*10^3 120 0.3
Answer: a) S= 42.53, Change in collector current = 0.85μA
b) S= 9.2, Change in collector current = 0.18μA
