ULTRASONOGRAPHY IMAGING EXAMINATION OF PATIENT WITH

LIVER AND BILLIARY TRACT ABNORMALITY IN RADIOLOGY


DEPARTEMENT OF GENERAL HOSPITAL IN JAYAPURA :

JANUARY 2010-JUNE 2011 PERIOD

ABSTRACT

Ultrasonography (USG) is a diagnostic imaging instrument which used to diagnose the


abnormalities of human organs and have many benefit, e.c. safe because its not used ionizated
radiation, quick and also cheap. Furthermore, USG also a best diagnostic instrument that have
precise function to detect abnormalities in hepar and gall bladder (biliary tract). The purpose of
this study is to discover USG Imaging examination of patient with liver and billiary tract
abnormality in Radiology Departement of General Hospital in Jayapura based on (1) age, (2)
gender, (3) Clinical diagnose, and (4) USG’s imaging result. The metode type of this study used
descriptive retrospective approach. Result : imaging of abnormal liver and biliary tract most
found at group of patient with range of age between 18 to 40 y.o. (43,75%), while the least found
at group with range of age more than 60 y.o. (20%). Also, in this study have found male (57,5%)
is the gender that have diagnosed with liver and gall bladder abnormalities. Suspect hepato
cirrhosis and suspect cholelithiasis (22,5) were the most disease that diagnosed with USG in this
study. Whereas USG imaging results have divide in 3 groups, i.e. (1) Hepato abnormalities
without other disease (37,5%), (2) Hepato abnormalities with other disease, and (3) Abnormal
biliary tract (38,75%). In liver abnormalities without other disease, the most case that found in
this study is liver cirrhosis (11,25), and followed, liver abnormalities with other disesase, the
most case is liver cirrhosis with acites (15%). In biliary tract abnormalities have found the most
case is cholelithiasis (21,25). Overall, presentation of cases that most found in this study is liver
abnormalities with or without other disease.
