The Course

Do you have some background in astronomy but find it difficult to keep up with
the pace of discovery at the research frontier? This massive open online course
(MOOC) is designed to cover the entire subject and take you to the “state of the
art.” The course is conceptually high level but mostly non-mathematical. Target
audiences are (1) amateur astronomers, (2) astronomy instructors at 2-year and
community colleges, and high schools, (3) planetarium, science center and EPO
professionals, and (4) adult learners with a strong interest in astronomy.

• Status report on the exoplanet “zoo” and the search for life beyond Earth.

Instructor
Chris Impey is a nationally-reputed astronomer and educator. He has over 220
research publications, 11 teaching awards, 2 textbooks, 3 popular astronomy
books, and he has had 12 projects approved on the Hubble Space Telescope.
