Objectives: The course provides a graduate level introduction to industrial organization.


The objective of the course is to provide a broad introduction to topics related to
industrial economics that current researchers are studying. This course also gives
exposure to students to understand basic theory and empirical tools used recently.

 Elements of market structure and market conduct
 Demand theory and demand estimation
 Market structure
 Market Concentration
 Entry and exit
 Diversification, Vertical Integration and Merger
 Product differentiation and advertising
 Productivity, efficiency and their measurement
 Determinants of profitability
 Investment decision
 Innovation
 Technical change and R&D

Evaluation Method: Mid-term examination 30%, final examination 40%, term paper
presentation 20% and class attendance 10%.
