Forms of Energy
Integrated
Science, Writing,
and Art Project
Energy Robot
This robot project is a fun and meaningful way to assess understanding of the different forms of energy. In this project,
students design and draw a robot that produces at least three forms of energy.

You can finish this activity in one or two class periods, depending on the time you have available. Completing the planning
page will help students focus on the specific features of their robots and will allow you to assess understanding before
beginning the final project.

I provided two options for the final project. The first option has room for the robot drawing and paragraph on one
page. The second option is a full sheet of paper for students to draw their robots. The paragraph can be written on the
notebook paper or typed on the computer. This allows for more room depending on the amount of information you
require students to include. An optional grading rubric is included.

Directions: Briefly review the different forms of energy with students. You can print and cut out the energy review
cards (following page), or simply display the page on a large screen for students to view and discuss. Then share the
planning page with students and discuss the directions shown on the page. After completing the planning page, students
will complete the final project. I would recommend showing the grading rubric to students throughout the project so that
the expectations are clear.

I hope your students enjoy the project!
