wrote a few things about yourself, like your name and where you're from,
etc...
You should
• if you use this pattern and put photos of your work on your blog or a website
or your Facebook page, you should always clearly state where the design
came from.
You may not
• claim this design to be yours,
• copy this design to your website or a blog (instead, provide a link to my blog
or my Ravelry account or my Facebook fanpage),
• reprint this design in a magazine or a book without asking me first and paying
me for it.
I made the Winter Carpet 2017 to share its pattern with my blog readers as part of a
crochet-along countdown from December 1st until the Christmas Eve in 2017. If
you’re curious, you can check it out here in Polish:

No matter what string you use, remember one important thing: the crochet hook
needs to be twice as thick as the string! Otherwise the carpet will come out
crooked, it will also wobble or buckle.
I use the same kind of string they put in sweatshirts to tighten the hood. It can be
washed in an ordinary washing machine. I order my string from a factory in Poland:
http://www.polimex.net/sklep/index.php?page=Product&id=676&sid=68&lang=en
but I have no idea if they are willing to ship small quantities of string overseas.
Another important thing: you should be sitting on the carpet while crocheting it.
This way the carpet will appear as if it has already been washed and blocked –
because you have been ironing it with your buttocks the whole time. If you crochet
the carpet while sitting on the couch, it will come out crooked and uneven.
Remember, you will never be able to wash it and block it because it's just too big!
Round #1. Make a magic loop and in it make 16 dc. The first dc can be “pretended”
by 3 ch. Close the round with a slip stitch. You have 16 stitches all around.
Round #2. Make 2 dc in the back loop of each stitch. As usual, the first dc in this
round can be “pretended” by 3 ch. Close the round with a slip stitch. You have 32
stitches all around.

Round #4. Slip stitch to the top of the
petal. Make 4 ch (they pretend to be a
tc) and then repeat {tc in the top of
the next petal, 5 ch, tc in the top of
the same petal} – omit the last tc in
the last repeat. Close the round with a
slip stitch. You have 8 ch5-spaces.

Round 7. Slip stitch to the 3rd dc in a
group of 6 dc’s. Repeat {sc in the 3rd
dc, sc in the 4th dc, 12 tc in the ch4-
space}. Close the round with a slip
stitch. You have 8 groups waves of
12 tc separated by 2 sc.

Round 10. I’m lost for words, you better see this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4-SRo1tu5M
You have 40 X’s all around. Each X stands on 3 stitches (the one in the middle is
empty) and has a ch2-space on top. Close the round with a slip stitch, as usual.
Round 11. In the previous round some of the X’s were based on top of a wave and
some X’s fell between the waves. In this round you should make 3 dc or 4 dc in
every ch2-space according to these rules:
• if the X falls between the waves, make 3 dc in it,
• each wave has four X’s based on it: make 4 dc in the outer two X’s and 3 dc
in the inner two X’s.
Close the round with a slip stitch. You have 136 stitches all around.
Or even better, have a look at this photo:

Round 12. Slip stitch to the first dc
that falls in the first X based on the
wave. Repeat {5 dc, dc-inc, 2 dc, dc-
inc, 5 dc, 4 ch, skip 3 dc}. Close the
round with a slip stitch. You have 8
groups of 16 dc separated by ch4-
spaces. All ch4-spaces fall between
the waves made a few rounds ago.

Round 15. In this round you are
working with two kinds of waves:
new waves made by 12 tc in the
previous round, and old waves
surrounded by back-post stitches in
the previous round. Two consecutive
waves are separated by 3 sc.
Round 19. Some of the X’s in round #17 fall between the waves of previous rounds.
Start this round behind the dc’s located above such an X. Repeat {12 dc, 4 ch, skip 4
dc}. Close the round with a slip stitch. You have 32 ch4-spaces separated by groups
of 12 dc.

Round 20. Repeat {sc in the 3rd, 4th
and 5th dc of the 12 dc group, 4 ch,
sc in the 8th, 9th and 10th dc of the 12
dc group, 12 tc in the ch4-space}.
Close the round with a slip stitch.
You have 32 waves alternating with
32 ch4-spaces. Everything is
separated by groups of 3 sc.

Round 23. Make 9 dc in each ch3-
space and 4 sc (e.g. in the 4th, 5th, 6th
and 7th stitch) in the 10 stitch group.
Close the round with a slip stitch.
You have 32 waves.
Round 26. Make slip stitches all around in the back loop of dc’s. Skip the sc’s.
