The Americnas were at the Sta. Mesa Side while the Filipinos were on the other side

There was an encounter between an american patrol man and a Filipino Army Man

- He was patrlolling his area then he saw two shadow approaching him from the Filipino side.
- He called for a 2 halts, and the shadows demimic him and shouted alto
- So he took aim and fired
- One fell and the others hid in the pipelines
- And they started firing at each other
- Pretty son the whole American side started shooting and the filipinos shot back.

Filipinos blamed the Americans for starting the war


- They had Filipino workers and they were discharged 2 days before the war erupted
- There was suspicious activity in the Pasig where they would reinforce parts of the rivers
- There would be rockets shot at at night
- Even Col. Lauriel was actually not in his post
- He was actually in a ball in Bulacan
- "No way can the Filipinos cause the War" - Aguinaldo
American Expansion
- They quickly expanded despite only occupying parts of intramuros
- They were pushing northwards
- Aguinaldo's balewick was in Cavite, but Manila was ther
- So he was pushed northwards to Ulacan
- Manila was taken very quickly by the US , hence the Aguinaldo expansion to the North

June 5
- Juan Luna was assassinated, the chief strategist of the PH army.
○ Advised Aguinaldo to shift to guerilla warfare
▪ Dispproved because Aguinaldo would lose power
▪ He wanted to conduct a civillized war
▪ Ther were factions within the camp that were against Luna

October 1899
- Luna Already killed, the chief strategist
- The americans had a 3-pronged approach [ Wheaton, Lawton, and MacArthur]
○ They were trying to trap Aguinaldo
- Aguinaldo had to run further North all the way to Ilocos Sur in the city of Candon--The Tirad
Pass

December 2, 1899
- Del Pilar had his last stand
- He stopped the Americans at Tirad Pass
○ Delayed the Americans
- The Americans did not know where Aguinaldo was

- Aguinaldo gave up Aguinaldo's family because they were slowing him down which were
received by the American civilly

- Trail from N. Luzon from Pangasinan. He criss-cross the area all the way to the other side

January 6, 1901
- Capture of Aguinaldo March 23,1901
- They intercepted a courier in the Ecija area because Aguinaldo was asking for troops to be sent
to Palanan
- The Americans concocted a scheme to send reinforcements through the Macabebe scouts of
Pampanga who acted as the soldiers that will be brought to Palanan, and along theway they
brought along US army officers
- The one in charge was General Funston
- Once Funston reached Palanan, there was a party, they captured Aguinaldo and he was
brought back through the Vicksburg towards Manila
April 1, 1901
- Aguinaldo already took the oath of allegiance to the Americans
- The following week Aguinaldo issued a memo for the remaining troops to surrender to the US
- Not all surrenderd because some factions still did g1uerilla warfare
