INTRODUCTION
Vital signs are a measure of the body's most basic vital functions. There are four main vital signs
namely body temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, and blood pressure and its benefits. Therefore, it is
necessary to check vital signs.

B. TYPES OF VITAL SIGNS

Blood pressure
Blood pressure is the power of pumping blood by the heart to push blood in the arteries (blood
vessels) throughout the body. Some classifications of blood pressure are said to be Hypotensive: Less
than 90/60 mmHg Normal: 120/80 mmHg, Hypertension: 140 / 90mmHg or more.

Respiratory
The respiratory rate is the number of breaths every minute. Some respiratory classifications are said to
be normal if in infants: 30-40 x / min, children: 20-30 x / min, adults: 16-20 x / min, elderly: 14-16 x /
min

Body temperature
Body temperature is one type of examination of vital signs that is simple because it can be done alone
at home using a thermometer. Some classifications of body temperature are said to be Normal if:
36,6oC - 37,2oC, and Febris: 38 oC - 40 oC Hypothermia: Less than 36 oC, Hypertermia: More than
40 oC

Pulse
Pulse measurement is measuring how many times the heart beats every minute. Some classifications
of pulses are said to be normal if in infants: 120-130 x / min, children: 80-90 x / min, adults: 70-80 x /
min, elderly: 60-70 x / min and tachycardia: more than 100 x / min min, bradycardia: less than 60x /
min.

C. USE AND BENEFITS OF VITAL SIGNS EXAMINATION

Examination of vital signs is carried out not without purpose and usability. The following are some of
the benefits of examining vital signs: being an indicator of basic body function, assessing general
physical health, identifying acute medical disorders, detecting if there is a possibility of chronic
disease, measuring how well the body can overcome physiological stress, showing progress in
treatment therapy.

D. CONCLUSION
Vital signs are a fast and efficient way to monitor client conditions or identify problems and evaluate
client responses to interventions. Assessment of vital signs allows nurses to identify nursing
diagnoses, implement intervention plans and evaluate success if vital signs are returned to acceptable
values.
