Rule 1: A singular

affect the number
of the subject.

rotunda.
Rule 3: Two
subjects joined by
and take a plural
verb.
e.g. Food and
music play a big
part in Philippine
culture.
Rule 4: If there are
two singular
subjects that are
joined by nor or
or, use a singular
verb.
e.g. A male or female
is eligible to lead.
Rule 5: If a
singular subject
and a plural
subject are joined
by or or nor, the
verb must agree
with the subject
closest to it.
e.g. Her sisters or
Ana volunteers for
a philanthropic
organization every
summer.
Rule 6: Use a
singular verb when
two or more
subjects connected
by and are
preceded by each,
many a, or many
an.
e.g. Every computer,
printer and fax
machine is marked
for reduction.
