To calculate the consistency and setting time of Portland
cement.

Because the quality of cement is vital for the production of
cement of good concrete require stringent control .So that a
number of test are performed to ensure that the cement is of the
desired quality like consistency and setting time.
For the determination of the initial setting time, the final setting
time neat cement paste has to be used.
Therefore, it is necessary to determine for any given cement the
water content, which will produce a past of standard consistence,
which determine by the vicat apparatus.
Setting refers to a change from a fluid to a rigid body, and it’s
determined using a vicat apparatus again, initial set indicate the
beginning of noticeable stiffening. Final set is taken to indicate
the beginning of what may be regarded as the hardening in past
