(i) Sketch the graph of y = f ( x ) .

(ii) Find f −1 ( x ) and state its range.

(iii) On the same diagram as in part (i), sketch the graph of y = f −1 ( x ) .

(iv) Write down the equation of the line in which the graph y = f ( x ) must be

reflected in order to obtain the graph of y = f −1 ( x ) and hence find the exact

solution of the equation f ( x ) = f −1 ( x ) .

(v) The function h is defined by h : x  ax + b , x ∈  , x < −2 , where a and b

are positive constants. Find the values of a and b such that
fh : x  4 x 2 + 16 x + 17 , x ∈  , x < −2 .
