Introduction to Chess

Chess is an Intellectual game and it can be used as a tool to develop mental abilities. It is a board game
which simulates a battle between two opposing armies.

The Chess Board

A Chess Board has 64 squares of alternating white and Black colors. Each side has a set of 16 pieces as
given below

Starting Position

While setting up the chess board, the rightmost square of both sides of the board must be white.

Introduction & Movement of pieces and Pawns.

Notation

The moves of a chess game can be recorded using chess notations. The Algebraic form is the most
widely used Notation.

Knowing the chess notation is a must to read and understand a chess game or a chess book.

Chess positions can be recorded using Forsyth Notation.

Piece Value

Each piece in chess is given a numerical value that represents its power in a game. Below are the various
points with respective to each piece. Knowing the values of each pieces helps in making smart decisions
during a chess game. These values can also help you understand if you are winning or losing a game, and
adjust your approach accordingly

The Relative value of the pieces

The relative value speaks about how much each piece is worth in a chess game. Relative value depends
on the particular position during a game.
