Gear Selector, Adjustment


Should there be a concern with free-play and vibrations in the gear lever, Volvo trans-
missions R/SR1000 - 1700 can be adjusted with adjustment screws on the control
housing. Should the transmission not be equipped with adjusting screws, the screws
can b purchased from any local Volvo dealer.

Procedure Torque Wrench

Before performing these procedures
check the following for wear an loose-
ness:

• Gear selector control know. Refer


to TSB 432–004 gear lever knob
rattle.
• Control linkage.
• Mounting: linkage, engine mounts,
etc.

Remove the bolts from the top of the
control housing for those gear posi-
W4002528 tions which are to be adjusted. Refer

4 4th Gear Apply sealant (V1161240) to the ad-
justing screw threads, install and
screw them down 3–4 turns.

Engage the gear which is to be ad-
justed.

Screw down the adjusting screw by
hand until it makes contact with the
gear selector.

Turn the adjusting screw in 1/6 of a

turn (60 ) and lock with the locknut.
