Re:Form School is a high‐end furniture and accessory shop that features

Summary of Portland Historic Resources Zoning Regulations
Record of its time. The historic resource will remain a physical record of its time, place, and use.
Changes that create a false sense of historic development, such as adding conjectural features or
architectural elements from other buildings will be avoided;
Historic changes. Most properties change over time. Those changes that have acquired historic
significance will be preserved;
Historic features. Generally, deteriorated historic features will be repaired rather than replaced. Where
the severity of deterioration requires replacement, the new feature will match the old in design, color,
texture, and other visual qualities and, where practical, in materials. Replacement of missing features must
be substantiated by documentary, physical, or pictorial evidence;
Historic materials. Historic materials will be protected. Chemical or physical treatments, such as
sandblasting, that cause damage to historic materials will not be used;

Re:Form School is a high‐end furniture and accessory shop that features the
unique. The shop serves a large geographic area in Portland, Oregon and is

1920”s brick warehouse you immediately get a shot of local culture.
Unique designer goods are made from mostly repurposed and recycled
materials from local residents and abroad. Polished and stained cement
floors help refine the updated interior. Exposed brick and overhead
ductwork hold the character of the space and create a perfect backdrop for
upscale furniture and one of a kind art pieces. On the main level you can
browse for hours through our custom fabric wall, or get a quick consult
from our professional design staff about 1 piece or an entire space.
Custom rugs, and custom fabrics are part of the exclusive services offered by
this shop. Selected artisans who are especially skilled in their respected
crafts have work studios on the upper levels and hours that they are open to
the public. Level 2 is home to a great café and small lounge open during
store hours and available for live music and other community events.
While you are browsing the showroom don’t be shy about contributing to
our infamous materials library or the “Scrap Lab.” Bring in any discarded and
suitable material you feel could be repurposed and deposit it into its own
material recycle bin. Objects are broken down , reused and re:formed into
their new life as functional art.

The 1st idea was the one spent the longest on. I think

when I refine the chair drawing it will be a very crisp and
graphic keeping some organic shape to it. I am also
keeping a slightly military inspired color palette which will
tie in well. 1 2
2 A cleaner take on the font…will be constructed of metal,
probably oxidized to create a bit of a craft quality. This
may work if we develop it in the right context but alone it
is too minimal.
3 Similar to design #2 but with machine inspired elements
like cogs, nuts and bolts within the negative letter space. 3 4
4 The literal eco/nature tree form design. I don’t think I will

go this way for the brand..the idea of sustainability is there
but its not edgy enough.

resemble a wire or electrical cord..(plug ends)..I thought 5

re-cycle arrows somehow ..flow chart style..but it just

LOGO: I actually think the 1st one is my favorite

and combines all the main ideas behind reform :
craftsmanship, design, and re-use and the chair
reminds me of school but has an arty high design
appeal. I want the lettering to suggest a bit of the
naïve and I think the school in stencil font will be a
good contrast. I am also using a slightly military
inspired color palette which will tie in well.
Brand: I think we can work this into an etched
metal (oxidized copper or weathered steel) plate
to be inserted into the front of the cash wrap and
its still got a clean look for printed materials

Re:FORM School Lighting Analysis
ENTRY: Entrances must attract attention…Our entire store front is abeautiful stone façade of
8’ tall narrow windows that will feature high color graphics and will feature our handmade
items. The halogen spot lights and 4” recessed incandescent will create key and fill lighting for
each display window. Spotlights will also emphasize store signage.
SHOWROOM: The showroom will have an overall ambient lighting plan using recessed
icandescents and indoor industrial pendant fixtures that can be metal halide or use cfl bulbs. We
can determine which is more efficient with our energy model. Both of these functional lamps will
continue on into all 1st floor levels including the work areas.
ACCENTS: Tall amber pendants made from recycled glass will hang over the cashwrap counter
area for function and add to our playful aesthetic and brand color reference. I am tying in the
theme again with another designer wall sculpture light behind the cashwrap and is something
fun and visible from the entry. Oversize industrial spun aluminum pendants will hang over the
