iT] ) 3 teeHello and welcome to the Battefleet Gothic Annual
for 2002,
This is the first of what we hope will become an on:
going series of annuals for Bartefleet Gothic, each
year the annual will publish the results of Gothic
‘Admirals’ rules review.
‘The rules review takes place in January, when the five
worthy and well-respected “High Admirals’ sift
through the many experimental rules published over
the course of the previous year in Battlefleet Gothic
magazine. We debate the why's and whcresores of
points costs, special rules, which new ships we like,
which we don't, which fit the background well, which
don't, and eventually come to a consensus on which
rules should become official additions to the game
(New Rules), which still require more play testing anid
work (Experimental Rules) and which will never
become New Rule (Unofficial House Rules)
Those rules we decide will never become New Rules,
‘not because they are bad, more because they just
don’t fit with our idea of what the BFG game is. These
are Unofficial House Rules. Unofficial House Rules are
those you might like to try out with friends or use in
your own games, but don’t expect to be able 10 use
them in tournaments. A good example would be the
Smotherman Formula for ereating your own ships. We
don't see that we will ever make this a New Rule, and
allow anybody to create whatever ships they like. We
NTRODUCTION
do think it's great tool for modellers to use their own
‘conversions in games, so worth having but not as
official rule
‘Of course New Rules are the opposite end of the seale
‘They are officially part of the game. Feel free to use
them when and as you like, you don't need
permission. Treat new rules as if they where part of
the blue rulebook. It is envisioned that with a copy of
the Battleleet Gothic rulebook and the BEG Annuals
you will have all the current rules for the game. With
‘Warp Storm no longer available we have also include
the relevant New Rules here. You will not need back
Issues of BEG magazine. That said, BFG mag i sll the
lace to find new miniature releases, all the
perimental Rules for you to use and feedback on
(your feedback informs the “High Admirals’ final
decisions), and other cool stuff like scenarios,
umpaigns, modelling and converting articles etc
Importantly the Brace for Impact section of the
magazine also contains a complete list of what status
rules currently have
T hope you enjoy the frst BEG annual. It contains
some great additions to the game, and an extensive Q
& A section as well. As for the Experimental Rules,
well they are still up for debate next January, so let the
High Admirals know what you think by email
fanatic@ games-workshop.c0.uk.
Good hunting dine.
