LATIN AMERICAN VOCABULARY BOOK

Your task is to produce an original Latin American book based on vocabulary. The project will be
conducted in three parts and time will be given in class to work on it:

Part 1 (30 points – 1.5 each):


Define all of the following vocabulary and turn in for grading – all are found in the glossary unless noted:

___ Amazon Rainforest - moist broadleaf forest that covers most of the Amazon Basin in South America
___ Columbian Exchange – exchange of goods, livestock and disease between Europe and the Americas
___ squatter settlement – places outside of the city where the poor in Latin America settle

Part 2 (30 points)


Writing of the story –Students will write their story in class using the vocabulary above. This will be a rough
draft and the following requirements must be met:

___Students must incorporate all of the following countries, places, and people in their stories (10 points –.9
each):

Part 3 (40 points)


Students will construct and assemble a Latin American book. The book must contain the following parts:
___ Cover made of construction paper, poster board, or any sturdy material (5 points)
___ original title of book (5 points)
___ original story (5 points)
___ illustrations on each page (can be drawn or printed) (5 points)
___ each vocabulary word must be underlined in the story (5 points)
___ creativity (15 points)

A part of the book is due each day at the end of class. You will lose 10 points each day it is late. If you are
absent, you must complete the part you missed at the next class. This is an individual project. You will turn in
this page along with each part of the book that you turn at the end of each class. Completed book is due
Tuesday, March 25, 2014 !!! You will not have class time to finish the book on that days! It is a major
grade!!!
