Lesson Plan in EARTH AND LIFE SCIENCE

Date: 7-4-2017 Yr. Section: 11- St. Raphael

I. OBJECTIVES
Content Standard: The learners demonstrate understanding of plate tectonics.

Performance Standard: The learner shall be able to conduct a survey to assess the possible geologic hazards
that your community may experience.

Learning Competencies: The learners:

1. explain how the continents drift (S11/12ES-Id-20)
2. Cite evidences that support continental drift (S11/12ES-Id-21)
II. SUBJECT MATTER
A. Content: Plate Tectonics Theory

C. Materials: Powerpoint presentation

III. LESSON PROPER

A. Activity: Review the students about how continents drift according to Alfred Wegener.

Based on the activity from the previous discussion, ask the students to write a paragraph
explaining the evidences of the continental drift.

B. Analysis: 1. From the previous activity, what do you think are the evidences that support the Plate
Tectonics Theory?
2. What is Pangaea?
3. How do continents drift?

C. Abstraction: 1. What are the evidences that support continental drift?

2. Are the evidences cited by Wegener and other scientists believable? Why?

D. Application: Knowing the past helps us to predict the future. Knowing that the Earth was once a single
giant continent, we could conclude that the plates of the earth is continuously moving.

IV. EVALUATION: 1. Explain how do continents drift.

2. Cite evidences that support continental drift.

V. ASSIGNMENT: Write a 100-word paragraph by answering the following question.

“Is the Earth still moving in present time?”
