DEPARTMENT OF COMPUTER SCIENCES

Name: Bioimage processing Number of credits: 8

Department: Computer Sciences Hours per week: 4 Type: Course
Class code: I7609 Prerequisites: None Total Hours: 68

Description General objective

One of the medical diagnosis areas that have benefit from the advances in technology is the
medical imagenology. This area is characterized by a set of techniques and processes that
are employed for the generation and analysis of images that represent different aspects of
the human body (bioimages). The information that can be obtained from these bioimages by
means of automatic processing using computer algorithms is valuable for the physicians to
provide better diagnosis. The main objective of this course is to provide the students with an
insight of the basic tools that are employed to analyze and extract valuable information from
different modalities of medical images such as CT, MRI, US, etc.

Syllabus Teaching modality

Techniques for the acquisition of medical images Presential lessons
Image representation and formation
Spectral analysis of images
Digital filters Evaluation modality
