Topic : I Have A Dream

Katie Lee & Carissa Yuen , 3 Beta .

Good morning Mdm.Boey and fellow friends . Our topic for today is 'I Have A
Dream'

I Have A Dream. This was the title of Martin Luther King's speech which was
the most famous speech in the 20th century . This speech was made in 1967
-almost half a century ago in a country on the other side of the world. This
speech set America ablaze with anti racist civil rights movement .

Could Martin Luther King stand on the steps of Dataran Merdeka today and
make the same speech as he did half a century ago and half a world away?Is
it relevant to the situation in Malaysia today ?

YES. Nowadays , it is common to see articles in newspapers regarding

politicians talking about unity, Bangsa Malaysia and how Malaysian equal in
his/her own right. If this is the truth, why do they still have to talk about it ?
Because it is not true yet. RACISM . Even the political parties are divided by
race . UMNO - only Malays ; MCA -Only Chinese ; MIC ; Only Indians . Who
wants to vote for a party thats separated by race ?

"Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksand of racial injustice to the
solid rock of brotherhood. Now is the time to make justice a reality for all of
God's children". These are the exact words that were mentioned in Martin
Luther King's speech . He also mentioned " It will be fatal for the nation to
overlook the urgency of the moment." Racial injustice in our country can no
longer be ignored. We cannot pretend that it is not happening . The
Government should take action before its too late.

Why am I not allowed to join certain universities because of my race ? Why

must I pay 7% more for my house because of my race ? Why are
scholarships to local universities based 60% on race ? It is unjust . These are
only a few examples of the things that need to be changed.

In Martin Luther King's own words , " I have a dream that my four little
children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the
colour of their skin, but by the content of their character "

^"I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true
meaning of its creed."We hold these truths to be self evident ,that all men are
created equal"

I too share this dream .
