I am interested in becoming a registered Nurse.

I have always had a passion for helping people

and I think it would be a fun and fulfilling experience. I think nursing would be a good fit
because I have great communication skills, I am friendly, hardworking, and a great problem
solver. I know Nursing requires hard skills and tasks such as critical thinking, conducting
laboratory tests, and recording data and important information. I know there is a lot more to
their job and I want to learn more about this specific field.

Nurses Assess patient health problems and needs, develop, and implement nursing care plans,
and maintain medical records. Administer nursing care to ill, injured, convalescent, or disabled
patients. May advise patients on health maintenance and disease prevention or provide case
management. Licensing or registration is required. Nurses must be flexible and might need to
work overtime and take extra shifts at nights and on weekends. Their salary in Pennsylvania
ranges between $48,020 and $90,890.

I am preparing myself for this possible career by taking all my core classes and in the future
taking biology, Honors Human Anatomy and Physiology, and Medical Perspectives and taking
electives related to this field.

I would like to peruse a bachelor degree in nursing. One of the certifications I can earn by
taking Medical Perspectives is becoming CPR certified.

I would like to possibly job shadow a nurse at UPMC or interview a Registered Nurse.

The interview I conducted was with Lisa Fennel. She is a Registered Nurse at UPMC. While
conducting this interview I learned about the salary made by experienced and new nurses,
hours of work, and the flexibility. I am still very interested in this job because the hours are
very flexible and the salary is great.
