THE HEALING POWER

Samaritan Medical Center committed
to providing the best in clinical care
It’s been quite a year. One defined by prog-

Samaritan is growing. Over the past year,
progress shined through every facet of Samari-

broadened capabilities. And the year ahead looks
even brighter.
At Samaritan, we’re committed to treating
everyone with the highest level of clinical care
and with the greatest compassion and respect.
Keeping with that commitment, one year ago
we launched our capital campaign, The Healing
Power of Progress. To date, our campaign has
raised over $5.4 million of our $6 million goal. The
funds raised are going to three critical priorities:
The Walker Center for Cancer Care, The Center
for Women and Children, and Samaritan’s En-

Division responded to the increased demand for its ser-
vices with the addition of two Structural Designers. The
Civil/Site Engineering Department hired an Engineering
Designer and three Resident Inspectors to further meet the
needs of its customers. Two additional employees started
employment in the Land Surveying Department, expand-

diverse and gifted staff.
To accommodate the additional staff hired in 2018, A&C
expanded the Design Studio by renovating what was previ-

and three additional design work stations. The architectur-

A&C, with Capital Construction accomplishing the build
portion of the project.
In 2018, A&C partnered with clients such as the Dormito-

ADVOCATING FOR COMPLETE
STREETS POLICIES
Complete Streets are de-
signed to be safe for users of all
ages and abilities, including pe-
destrians, bicyclists, transit us-
ers, and motorists. Not all Com-
plete Streets look the same, but
some common features include
sidewalks, safe road crossings,
roundabouts, and bike lanes.
Some communities in the
North Country have already ad-
opted Complete Streets policies
and begun to implement them
in recent construction projects,
but many more towns and vil-
lages have no Complete Streets
policies.
“Roughly one-third of North
Country residents say they ‘nev-
er’ walk around their neighbor-
hoods — specifically, 31% in
Jefferson County, 37% in Lewis,
and 32% in St. Lawrence,” Ms.
Parobii said. “We need to ensure
all of our region’s municipali-
ties are walkable, giving people
an opportunity to be active and
connect with their neighbors.”
For this portion of the LIFT
grant, FDRHPO has subcon-
tracted with the St. Lawrence
Health Initiative and the Tug
Hill Commission to conduct
workshops in communities,
identify potential projects and
assist with policy adoption.
