RE: 18 YEAR OLD CALLS VAN BUREN POLICE TO HAVE HIMSELF ARRESTED FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION

On February 21st 2019, an officer was called to the 1000 block of south 40th Street in reference
to a person who was underage and drinking at his apartment. When officers arrived on scene, an 18
year old man came out of the residence with his hands up and said “Here I am, I will go peacefully”.
The young man then gave his name to the officer and said that he was drinking underage, and that he
needed to go to jail. When asked by the officer, the man said that he called the police on himself
before anyone else could call on him.

The man told the officer that he was just having a bad day and it caused him to want to drink.
The officer gave him an opportunity to go back inside of his apartment to sober up, but he insisted
that he needed to go to jail. He was then arrested for public intoxication and taken to the Crawford
County Detention Center. He ended up registering a blood alcohol content of .112 at the jail. The
suspect was allowed to sober up in the jail before bonding out.
