A Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan in Science 9

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. identify the uniformly accelerated motions (UMP) qualitatively and
quantitatively;
b. describe the horizontal and vertical motions of projectile; and
c. investigate the relationship between the projection angle and the height and
range of projectile

II. SUBJECT MATTER

A. Topic: FORCES AND MOTION

C. Resources:

Materials: laptop, projector, ball, stopwatch, and long string

I. TEACHING – LEARNING ACTIVITIES

A. Preliminary Activities
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Settling down and setting of standards
 Checking of attendance
 Review
 Ask the students about the previous topic.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Engage – Anticipatory Set
- The class will be divided into four (4) groups.
- Each group will determine the acceleration of a rolling object by
recording the time to travel different distances on and inclined plane.
 Student 1 holds the timing device and accurately starts and stops the
timing device (stopwatch or cellphone with stopwatch application).
 Student 2 records the time in the table provided for the activity.
 Student 3,4,5 releases the thin can in each marked position.
Procedure:
 First, set up an inclined plane by putting one end of the plane on top of a
stark of books. Mark the plane for every 40 cm and label these as 40 cm,
80cm, 120cm, and soon, starting from the lowest end.
 Second, measure the base and the height and calculate the angle of
inclination. Use the formula, Ɵ=tan¯1 (height/base).
 Third roll the tin can from each labeled point starting with the 40cm mark.
Start the timer as the time as the tin can is released, and stop the timer
when the tin can has reached the bottom of the inclined plane.
 Ask your group mate to record the time (t) taken by the tin can to travel
each distance (d) down the plane. Perform three trials from each mark.
Use the table below for your data.
 Graph dx vs. t and then d vs. t²

2. Explore – Guided Practice and Monitoring

- In the same group they need to provide one stopwatch, ball (e.g. tennis
ball, sepak takraw, etc.) and long string.
Procedure:
 First look for a tall building in our school. Drop the tennis ball from the
tall building.
 Using your stopwatch, ask your group mate to record the time it takes
the ball to reach the ground. Record your data.
 Each group will be given 10 minutes to do their task.

3. Explain – Instructional Process

- Same group they need to determine the initial velocity and the maximum
height of reach by ball thrown upward.
Procedure:
 First throw the ball vertically upward in the air as hard you can in an
open space.
 Second using your stopwatch, ask your group to record the total time the
ball remains in the air. Get the time of the ball from point of release to its
maximum height by dividing the total time into two. Record your data.
 Each group will be given 5 minutes to finish their task.

4. Elaborate – Independent Practice and Valuing

- The class will be divided into five groups.
- Each group will investigate the relationships between the projection
angle, height, the range, and the time of travel of a projectile. And also
you need to capture a full trajectory of projectile motion on an inclined
surface.
PROCEDURE:
 Use the modified retractable pen to launch a bottle cap horizontally five
to ten times from heights, h of 5.05m, 1.0m and 2.0 m.
 Repeat step 6 and complete the table below.
 Each group will be given 10 minutes to do their task.
5. Evaluate – Assess Mastery
Solve the following problem. 5pts each

1. The acceleration of gravity on the moon is 1.62m/s². If a ball is dropped on the

moon from a height of 1.50m. Determine the time for the ball to fall to the
surface of the moon.

2. Zed is playing with a ball on top of the building but the ball fell and hits the
ground after 2.6s, what is the final velocity of the ball just before it hits the
group and how high is the building?

II. ASSIGNMENT
- In a ½ sheet of paper, compare and contrast mass and weight.
