Ques 1. What is the study about?

Ans. Friendship is part of human nature, hence workplace friendship is imminent as we spend
more time in the workplace and less time bonding in the our neighbourhood community
workplace friendship has become a norm which either increase the sustainability of the
workplace or ruin it, This study investigates the link between perceptions of negative workplace
relationships and organisational outcomes. Results indicated that those with at least one
negative relationship at work were significantly less satisfied, reported less organisational
commitment, were part of less cohesive workgroups and were significantly more likely to be
planning to leave their job.

It is reasonable to expect that the presence of a negative relationship will adversely affect an
individual’s experience of work. If someone is experiencing rudeness, undermining and/or
incivility in the workplace, they are likely to be less satisfied, committed or happy in their job
than someone not having to deal with interpersonal negativity. This study is all about the
influence of workplace friendships on employee turnover intentions

Ques 2. Why is study being made?

Ans. Informal relationships are usually viewed as an encouraging feature of organizational

culture, but at the same time, they can also be the cause of inefficiency and inconvenience.
Good relations both outside and within work place are universally, considered well. It is
reasonable to perceive that friends are the main source who can enrich the environment with
their support and also enhance sociability. However, this situation is not simple to understand
as it seems. Positive effect of workplace friendship on organizational outcome and employee
performance specifically, on job employee attitude, critical and creative thinking, job
involvement is seen. However, the mediating role of job satisfaction between workplace
friendship and turnover intention, task performance, contextual performance has been largely
ignored. On the other hand, negative association like development of romantic relationships,
favouritism, and conflict of interest, causes loss of focus on official tasks which are very
harmful for the organizational as well as employee performance. These two extreme thoughts
confuse the role of work place friendship. This research is being conducted to know about the
level of negative influence of workplace friendships in the service sector.
