Get Out the Vote!

Congratulations! You have decided to run for elected office and it’s time to
organize your campaign. This is a 2 part performance task. For part 1, you will
write a short narrative paper reflecting on what you’ve learned in Module 2.
In Part 2, you will create a poster or presentation detailing your campaign
plans.

Part 1- How Do We Make Change?
Reflect on what you’ve learned in Module 2. Write a short, narrative
essay explaining the role of citizens in civic life. Think about how you
can use government to make changes in our country. Question to
address are: How do citizens make change? What roles and
responsibilities belong to citizens in the political process? What about
political parties and interest groups? Does this change at the state or
local level? What change would you make to the political process and
how would you make it happen? What democratic principles and
constitutional rights would you apply?

Part 2-What Changes Would You Make?
You will need to determine the following:
● What is the office you’d like to hold? Choices might include
mayor, governor, president, senator, representative, or city
council member (if there is another office you are interested in let
me know)
● What role will citizens, the media, and interest groups play in your
campaign?
● What is your campaign platform? In other words, what issues are
important to you and what will you do for the people you
represent once in office? What responsibilities will you hold in
office?
● Identify your base supporters. Who are they and is there a
movement behind them? What types of political participation are
your supporters engaged in?
