Purpose of job:

To provide logistical and administrative support to the English as an Additional Language (EAL)
Nexus project and its staff. The postholder will oversee temporary assistance at peak periods of
the project.

Context and environment:

The British Council EAL Nexus project provides support to learners who speak English as an
Additional Language (EAL) and to their teachers in the UK. This is in accordance with our
ongoing vision to support integration strategies, build capacity in the sector and facilitate
community links. The award of European Integration funding* for the EAL Nexus project enables
us to create resources for teachers and young migrants who have arrived from outside the EU
and EEA, and to make these available via the future EAL Nexus website:
http://eal.britishcouncil.org This post is based in London, reporting to the Project Director, and will
provide vital administrative support for the project team.

* total value = £1,016,000 over 3 years (85% of which will be EAL expenditure)

Accountabilities, responsibilities and main duties:

A key aspect of the post is the timely management of project financial records, and resource
management including raising and goods-receipting purchase orders, arranging payments to
vendors, supporting financial reporting including overseeing time-logging system, and budget
control and audit processes.

The post will also;

• Contribute to project management including monitoring and reporting activities, collating


and reporting on data
• Provide logistical support including arranging meetings and catering, arranging venues,
and technical aspects related to phone and video-conferencing
• Manage visits and meetings with external stakeholders, preparing audience-specific
information packs and inputting into programmes
• Assist with events management both on-site and off-site, including networking with
attendees, liaising with presenters, managing guest-lists and costings
• Manage databases including carrying out desk research and maintaining records
• Take minutes, draft and circulate

• Assist with external communications, including using mail merges
• Maintain excellent relations with a variety of providers
• Procure goods and services as required, eg. stationery and equipment

The post may involve occasional travel, and a willingness to work in the evenings at occasional
events, and at weekends, for occasional conferences.

The post must be London-based, as other key project staff will use London as a base.
