BACKGROUND (NHA)

AITECH stands for Accreditation of Innovative Technologies for Housing. It

is a system for accrediting innovative technologies for housing. AITECH was Department of Science and Technology
(DOST)
conceived as a result of the numerous building technologies that have been
developed in the last few years using non-traditional or alternative materials and
systems. Cognizant of their potential in reducing over-all housing costs, it has
become imperative to accredit these innovative technologies for low-cost Home Guaranty Corporation
housing. (HGC)

Department of Public Works and Highways

AITECH responds to queries and requests from private manufacturers of (DPWH)
indigenous and innovative building materials/systems for technical and
engineering evaluation leading to accreditation of these products. The AITECH
Inter-Agency Committee reviews and accredits the technologies.

The AITECH Committee is composed of the following agencies: Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board

PROPER STORAGE

STEELTECH's products are manufactured in accordance with the highest

quality standards defined in the metal coating industry.

Proper care and storage of these products prior to installation on the

final location is vital to meet the life expectation for the product when installed.

During storage when water from rainfall and moisture due to

condensation accumulates in the products or in between sheets of products, it
can create serious quality problems. It is easier to prevent this problem by 2). Always keep the Products in a dry, shaded and good ventilated area
following the proper care and storage. but do not allow entry of wind-driven rain. Do not keep the Products on wet
floor (water, rain, etc.).

Not following the care and storage instructions may lead to serious product
quality issues such as paint peel off, stains, blistering, corrosion, color changes, etc.

1. Indoor Storage
Storage should be indoors if possible, preferably in a clean, dry area away
from any source of chemical pollution. Since rapid changes in temperature may
cause condensation leading to quality issues, storage should be at an even
temperature. In particular, storage of products on site will be improved by a few
simple precautions:

1). Always stack the Products on metal or wooden skids in tilted position
3). Store away from chemically aggressive substances (e.g. salt, cement,
to keep them from direct contact with the ground, or drainage of water
fertilizer), away from material that could contaminate the surface (e.g.
or moisture and to prevent sagging.
diesel oil, paint, grease) and away from site traffic.

114 115
4) Where possible, do not leave uncovered products stacks lying in the
open. Store them under cover and away from open doorways.
3) Store out of direct sunlight if possible.

2. Outdoor Storage 4) Store away from chemically aggressive substances (e.g. salt, cement,
When storing outdoors in unavoidable, these are the recommendations: fertilizer), away from material that could contaminate the surface (e.g.
1) Always stack the Products on metal or wooden skids in tilted position diesel oil, paint, grease) and away from site traffic.
to keep them from direct contact with the ground, or drainage of water
or moisture and to prevent sagging. 5) The period of outdoor storage should be kept as short as possible.
Particularly during the rainy season because sheets in stack get wet due to
condensation and that the condense water cannot evaporate easily.

Recommendation for Protecting Deck Bundles at Job Site

2) Use good covers such as tarpaulins, loosely shrouded over stocks

and firmly anchored to prevent wind blow off, but ensure that there is
adequate ventilation under the cover to prevent water condensation.
Do not use plastic covers during storage.

116 117
PAINT DELAMINATION
3. When products get wet
Regularly inspect the products during storage preferably at least once a week. If • Soft and pliable paint surface
there is presence of water in the product, please perform the following: • Bubbles underneath the paint surface is present

1) Wipe off the water with clean cloth and allow air circulation to • Paint peeling
complete the drying process.
2) Check presence of water in between sheets, if water is present separate
the wet sheets and place in tilted position so that water will flow until
dry.

IDENTIFY THE WRONG STORAGE PRACTICES

WHAT IS WET STORAGE STAIN?

• No tarp / Lona is covering the Roofing

Is a result of neglect and improper storage practices of the user and by
no means should be construed as product quality defect. • Metal Debris / Scraps are on top of the
roofing
This is caused by stacked products where moisture or water gets trapped
• Ponding of water
in between roofing sheets or when ponding of water occurs on the surface of
the roofing sheet thus restricting adequate airflow. Trapped moisture or water • Storage is near organic materials such
could lead to paint delamination and/or rusting as leaves and soil

PROPER INSTALLATION GUIDE

1. On cutting, Trimming & Drilling

1) There is no special equipment or tools needed, however work will be

much easier if you use an electric drill and screwdriver. To cut metal roofing
sheet it is better to use shears or a nibbler.
2. Post Installation Cleaning
2) Never cut metal roofing sheet with parting grinder. It would burn the

cap).
3) Any scratches made during assembly can be touched up with a special paint
(to be ordered from United Steel Technology International Corporation).

4) In any case, the galvanization of the steel prevents any oxidation of

PROPER MAINTENANCE GUIDE

Maintenance of your Steeltech Colored Roofing

1) Twice a year, clean your gutters and downspouts to avoid clogging and overflowing
of rainwater. C-JOIST
FLOOR AND ROOF SLAB SYSTEM
2) Use a high pressure water sprayer to break up any clogs inside your downspout.

3) Areas not subject to the natural washing action of rainfall, washing of roofing should
be done at least every 6 months and 3 months for coastal areas and in areas near
industrial sites to remove contaminants and prevent accumulation of salty deposits and

SPACED AT 900 MM O.C.
4) Remember that accumulation of wind-borne salty deposits in seaside localities can
have a particularly aggressive effect on steel products.

5) Failure of proper maintenance may lead to premature fading and early corrosion of A pre cast, pre stressed concrete product used for floor and roof slab system. It is

Widely used on different types of residential and other kinds of buildings. These
are commonly used on mass housing, socialized housing, high end housing,
townhouses and privately owned residences. Also, it is widely used on
commercial buildings, mall buildings, condominiums, walk up buildings, medium
rise and high rise buildings. It is as well applied mostly on government and
private schools, municipal buildings, hospital, churches and other institutional
buildings. Moreover, it is also suitable for light and heavy warehouses, factories,

methods of construction, and, along with Steeltech, were part of the previous

Below is an overview of the training:

Day 1: Introduction of the Technologies and Lecture Presentation

Nedsteel Construction and Development Corporation started the lecture
presentation with the company’s technology, Light Gauge Steel Framing
System. It was followed by United Steel Technology Corporation presenting the
Steeltech colored roofing sheets and J-bolt, followed by the presentation of
Permaforms Inc. on their Permaforms panel; and lastly Green Eco-Toilet System
by Greenway Toilet Solutions, a technology that incorporates recycling of gray
water. A representative from SCG, the supplier for the fiber cement boards that
are part of Permaforms Inc.’s technology was also present. Each presenter was
given an opportunity to discuss questions and clarifications from site engineers
and contractors using their technology.

The training concluded on a general discussion on the approved plans

Corporation, Steeltech and Greenway conventional materials to new technologies.
The second mock-up unit based on Nedsteel’s 26 square meter housing
design model was done within the compound of the NHA Office in Tacloban,
where Nedsteel demonstrated the installation of the framing and the rafters for
the roof. Steeltech also had a small mock-up of their own, where they showed
how the J-Bolts are installed and demonstrated how to check the thickness of
the roofing sheets. Greenway Toilet Solutions also demonstrated the installation
of the water recycling unit for the toilet and bath of the 26 square-meter mock
up.

The training enabled the participants to ask questions on their actual

experiences in using the technologies. For instance, it was found that site
engineers had been using the wrong type of calliper to measure the thickness of
the roofing (the Vernier calliper, which was being used to check the thickness of
the roofing sheets, is more accurately used for bolts), which was afterwards
clarified due to Steeltech’s information. Steeltech also presented a roofing
system design that incorporates J-Bolts and tekscrews for quicker installation, but
it is yet to be approved by the DPWH.

Day 1: Lecture Presentation by the Technology Providers

The training kicked-off with an introduction to the three technologies. The
technical providers presented their AITECH Accredited technologies’ features
and their methodologies. The contractors and site supervisors asked a range of
questions, from the pricing to the methodology based off their own site
experience in using the featured technologies.

Day 2: Construction Demonstration at Antonino Heights, Cadiz City

The actual demo done by Bilrey Construction workers was held at the
NHA project site in Brgy. Luna, Cadiz City. The project makes use of the
Permaforms Panel, with the horizontal layout of the boards. This new layout had
been an outcome of the previous training, held in Tacloban, which had been
one of the suggestions so as to guard the pouring of concrete at a correct
height. Additional observations were made by the workers in the difficulty in
lifting the boards at this layout, and also with the way they insert the vertical
rebars. The site engineers brought up the solution they had come up with on-site,
and was one of the main topics tackled at the Q&A.

board, a fast and green housing technology solution to modern pre-fabricated
housing. Made of high strength fibers and cement, it is resistant to water and
moisture, corrosion and acid, and pest damage. Fire tests yield that the system is
A-grade and does not produce toxic fumes.

Manufactured by pulping, shaping, cutting, pressurizing and steam-

curing, the material is absolutely free of toxic substances, such as asbestos,
formaldehyde, benzene, and others. Its strength enables it to be used for single-
storey as well as multi-storey buildings. The Eco-Key System allows for ease in
construction and installation, requiring no special tools and minimizes wastage.
