Hello and thank you for subbing for me!

Today you will have the same lesson for ten classes in Room 37. Each class is paired with another class
within a 55 minute block. You will see one class for 25 minutes (their classroom teacher will deliver them to
you) then the P.E. teacher Joe Persuitti will bring his class to you in Room 37 and you will swap students for
the last 25 minutes and the classroom teacher will pick them up. The transition between music and gym has 5
minutes allotted. The other specialist teachers should be able to answer any extra questions you have.

Here is your schedule:

● All resources are located on my website at kelseymusicsub.weebly.com
● Each class will start with the “Love Bug Up/Down Pitch Game” that can be found on my sub website.
You will have to download it using the arrow button in the top right of the page. Students have played
games of the same format so they are familiar with how it works, but have not done this one with
pitches that go up and down. If students do not understand when using the words “up” and “down,”
you can also rephrase as “higher” or “lower.”
○ Click the bug to play a sound
○ Choose a student to select whether the pitch is going up or down.
○ If they answer correctly, music will play and students can dance along with the bug. Students
should be reminded that they should keep a safe body while doing this and sit down after the
music is over so they’re ready for the next sound. Students are familiar with these directions.
○ If they answer incorrectly, listen to the sound again before letting them select the correct
answer.
○ Click the arrow at the bottom right to go to the next sound.
● Farm vocal explorations
○ Students are familiar with vocal explorations but have not done this farm themed one.
○ Pick one student to use a pointer to be the “leader” and follow the wavy line on the screen. The
other students will follow along with a “siren” sound, making their voice go higher when the line
goes up and lower when the line goes down. You can read the sentence at the top, or have
students read it with you, when starting a new page. After a few pages, pick a new leader.
○ If you get to the pages without a line, you can invite a student to come and draw their own line
for the vocal explorations.
● After the dynamics game, if there is any remaining time students can follow along with the
sing/dance-along playlist linked on my sub website.

Set-Up
● Turn on computer and SMART Board in Room 37. The grey remote control is velcroed onto the
SMART Board. Since I use my own speakers (located on my desk & there a separate volume knob for
them sitting on the left hand side that will automatically turn on), you do not need to turn on the volume
knob on the SMART board.
● The green sub folder and class lists for today are on my desk, should you need them. Computer login
info is in the green folder.

Notes about behavior management:

● Under no circumstance should the students touch or play with any of the instruments in the room
while I am gone.
● The colorful risers are called “FlipForms” and the students love sitting on them. However, since
students will be doing a fair amount of dancing during the game, please ask them to sit on their carpet
spots for today, as that is a safer dance area. Feel free to use the chairs if any students need to sit
separately from their peers. If you’d like, you can let the students sit on the FlipForms during the vocal
explorations.
● Students may ask about the “Secret Student.” You do not have to worry about picking a secret
student. You can let them know that I will honor the previous secret student when I return.
● In case of any issues with technology or otherwise, I have plenty of books in my magazine rack and in
the bookshelf near the door that can be read to students.
● Our behavior steps are as follows:
1. Give a whole class reminder about the behavior.
2. Give a student specific reminder.
3. Student spends 1 minute in the “fix-it” chair (the blue kids’ chair near the door).
4. Student sits separately from peers.
5. Student behavior is reported back to me and I will contact home.
6. Call the office for support (7400 on the phone. “Please send support to Room 37.”) Please leave me a
brief description of the incident if you reach this step so I can follow up when I return.

If you have any questions that the other specialists cannot answer, you are welcome to text me at
612-226-4206 or e-mail me at heather.kelsey@moundsviewschools.org and I will respond as soon as I am
able!

Thanks again and enjoy your day!
