RARE Individual Project

“Rare” which means Reasoned, Articulate, Reflective, Exposition
Step1: Identification of the Topic
Identify the topic (from the given list) on which you would like to research upon. For that you
must identify the audience you are targeting.
Ask yourself:
1) What is that you would like to prove or disapprove? Based on that develop the “Rare”.
2) Who are you writing for? Based on that select your material.
Step 2: Data Collection
If required, data can be collected through various sources. Information can be collected by
interviewing, researching, print source like books, magazines, encyclopedias etc. etc.
Step 3: Selecting the key points.
After gathering the information needed for your project, read through them with the theme in
your mind and select the relevant points. The following questions can help you in selecting the
key points.
 Does the information relate directly to the topic
 Is the information current and error free?
 Is the source convincing enough for you to justify?
Step 4: Note Making
Make notes carefully and systematically as the notes you make are a record of your research. It
helps you to remain focused on the topic. Always remember to sort and record the details
according to the structure that you have in your mind for your “RARE”
Important Note:
Academic research requires you to credit your sources and share with the readers the exact origin
of your information. So before taking down notes you must record the following information
about each source.
 Author or editor of the article or book
 Tittle of the article or book
 Name of the magazine or journal
 Place of publication of the book
 Publisher of the book
 Publication date
 Exact page or pages where the information is found.

For electronic source:

 Author name if available
 Title of the article or work
 Date and location of original publication.
 Date of electronic publication as well as date when the document was accessed
 Page, paragraphs or section number if available
Step 5: Title and the “RARE”
Create a captivating and impressive title. Develop a plan from the title called the “Rare
Statement “The statement contains the main point, ideas or opinions the writer wants to convey
on the topic.
An effective “Rare” has four characteristics
 It should state the subject of the “Rare” clearly
 It includes a controlling idea about the subject.
 It should have specific language rather than vague words.
 It must establish a tone that is appropriate to the subject and the intended audience.
Developing the “Rare”
“Rare” has three distinctive parts:
1) Introduction: A catchy introduction is crucial to the success of your project. It should
capture the attention of the audience and must smoothly guide them to the topic.
2) Body: Body paragraphs vary considerably in purpose, length, style and content. There
should be smooth transition from one main point to other.
3) Conclusion. Just as an introduction form the first impression the conclusion form a last
impression. It should convey the feeling of completion. It should frame the project by
tying together all the main points and wrapping up the loose ends if any. You can
conclude by the following ways:
 Making a Concluding remark
 Recommendation
 Calling for reaction
 Referring back to introductory strategy
Step 6: Self Reflection (Writing Commentary)
Write a page titled self-reflection. This page must contain answers to the following questions, in
the form of a paragraph.
 What made me choose this topic for research?
 What made me think in this way?
 What have I learned from this research work?
 How do I feel about this piece of work? What parts of it do I particularly like? Dislike?
Why? What did/do you enjoy about this piece or work?
 What does this piece reveal about me as a learner?
 What is the most important thing that I particularly want people to notice when they look
at my work?
Step 7: Resource Commentary Guide:
 What resources did I use while working on this piece? Which all were especially helpful
and why? Which one would I use again?
Guidelines
You can refer both in-text and end-text. In-text referencing is referencing while you write the
essay, and end-text referencing is the referencing done at the end of your essay under the title
reference.
Three reports needs to be submitted:
1) Process involved from step 1 to step 5 as report 1 ( First Draft)

2) Process which involves Metacognition: "thinking about thinking", or "knowing about

knowing". It can take many forms; it includes knowledge about when and how to use
particular strategies for learning or for problem solving. (Final Draft)
3) Resource Commentary Guide.
