Establishment
University of Malaya has its roots in Singapore with the
establishment of King Edward VII College of Medicine in
1905. In 1949, University of Malaya was formed with the
amalgamation of King Edward VII College of Medicine and
Raffles College in Singapore. University of Malaya Kuala
Lumpur was established in 1962.

HISTORY
UM is the first public university established
in Malaysia with a long history of producing
notable alumni and contributed to the
development of the country. Since its inception
in 1905, it has achieved numerous accolades

MALAYSIAN STUDENTS:
a. A Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Malaya with a CGPA of at least 3.00 with a
minimum grade of B for the final Architectural Design Studio course;
Or
b. A Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Malaya with a CGPA of at least 2.75 with
relevant work experience for a minimum of 6 months after obtaining the degree;
And
i) pass the portfolio interview;
Or
c. A Bachelor of Science/Arts in Architecture or equivalent from any university approved by the Senate as
equivalent to a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the University of Malaya with Honours with a
CGPA of at least 3.00;
And
i) fulfill the requirements of the Malaysian (RM) Board of Architects (LAM) Part I;
And
ii) have relevant work experience for a minimum of 6 months after obtaining the degree;
And
iii) pass the portfolio review.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS:
a. Obtained other qualifications which are equivalent to the University of Malaya General Requirements
and Special Requirements for the program which have been approved by the Malaysian Government
and the University of Malaya Senate;
And

Programmes by Clinical (Minimum qualification)
Entry qualifications:
a. MBBS or BDS or an equivalent medical qualification approved by the Senate; and
b. At least one year of post-full registration
Other requirements:
a. Qualifies for registration as a medical practitioner under the Medical Act 1971 (Act 50) of Malaysia; and
b. Meet the satisfaction of the Department responsible for the candidate’s programme of study in an
Entrance Evaluation.
c. Only applicants with Master of Medical Science in Clinical Pathology are eligible to apply MMA, MMB,
MMC, MMD or MME.

Semester I of the academic year commences in September while Semester II commences in February.

The length of time required for the completion of a programme depends on the mode and type of
programme, and on the progress of the individual candidate. In general, the minimum, maximum and average
durations are as follows:

• Applications for research programmes are open throughout the year. Candidates may apply
anytime except for programmes with pre-requisite courses. The application announcement for
coursework and mixed-mode programme for Semester I (September) intake is in January and
the application announcement for Semester II (February) intake is in July.
• Programme details will be advertised in the local newspapers and in the Institute of Graduate
Studies, University of Malaya website.
