Issues Topic Student Motivation

Group Members Katie Edelmann, Hailey Rausch

Learning Objectives Students will:


● Learn the two types of motivation (intrinsic and extrinsic).
● Demonstrate an understanding of reasons students may be
unmotivated.
● Demonstrate an understanding of ways to motivate students
both intrinsically and extrinsically.
● Collaborate and defend a debate topic with supporting
evidence.

Assessment ● Brainstorming activity to determine what the class already


knows (think-pair-share).
● Student Motivation Relay: Keep & Sweep

Materials Materials used:


● Google Slides
● Debate topic article pages
● Keep & Sweep cards
● Awards for class activity

Introduction (3-5 min) ● What is motivation?


● Brainstorming activity to introduce, and pre-assess already
known knowledge about student motivation (think-pair-
share for 1-minute).

Body (10-12 min) ● Using slides to teach class about student motivation
● define motivation, explain types of motivation, introduce no
zero policy, use case study for class discussion, and a class
debate for critical thinking (5 minutes).
● Give “teaching tools” to the class to provide solutions.

Closure (5 min) Class activity: Keep & Sweep Relay (5 minutes)


● Gives us the opportunity to assess what the class has
learned from our presentation.
● Give awards.
