BP250 Bachelor of Architectural Design Welcome Letter
BP250 Bachelor of Architectural Design Welcome Letter
This letter from the RMIT Architecture administrative team contains important program and
general information that will assist you in getting ready for the start of the semester.
ENROLMENT
Please refer to your Enrolment Program Structure to find courses to enroll in. Students should
enroll for the entire academic year and be enrolled in 48 credit points each semester.
If you have previously studied in a design related discipline you may be eligible for a credit
transfer.
The advanced standing credit exemption meeting will take place with your Program Manager
Richard Black. Please arrange an appointment by lodging an enquiry via the RMIT Student
Portal. It is important that all students bring their RMIT offer letter / official academic
transcript to this meeting.
This meeting will outline which courses you are receiving credit exemptions for and will therefore
clarify which course you should not enrol into for semester 1 2019
ORIENTATION
RMIT utilises a preferential class allocation system for Higher Education students. However not
all of your courses within the program will use this system. Some courses will be balloted for and
some courses will be assigned. Non balloted courses will require students to utilise the RMIT
system to select a prefered timetable.
For ARCH1000 - Architecture Design and Communication 1 please check the announcement
on CANVAS for Class Lists.
BALLOTING
Further information will be sent to your student email account closer to the balloting date of the
26th of February, 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm Building 80, level 2, room 7.
NOTE: ARCH1000 Design & Communications First Year First Semester students are not
required to ballot so do not need to attend the pre-ballot or balloting presentations.
ARCH1000 students are assigned design streams prior to start of semester via the class lists,
however the invitation to attend the ballot is extended should you be curious about what may be
on offer in your future studies. Although if you want to see what goes on in the balloting sessions
please feel free to sit in.
WORKSHOP INDUCTION
27th Feb 1 hour time-slots between 9.30am-2.30pm
First Year First Semester students should attend the allocated time slot and location indicated

complete during the first weeks of semester, however we highly recommend completing prior to
the start of classes.

FACILITIES
In addition to teaching spaces, Building 100 has a workshop, printers, temporary lockers, desks,
Wi-Fi and PCs for self-directed and group study.
These facilities are shared amongst 1400 students and supported during business hours by
Studio Assistants (look for the bright blue or yellow t-shirts on levels 1, 4, 5, 6 and 7) and School
Facilities and Technical Services staff. Academic Officers on level 8 (Student Precinct) can help
you with administration matters. ITS will help you with systems access and any IT questions or
requests.
Architecture and Urban Design students are welcome to use self-directed study spaces and
computers across the City campus. To ensure equitable use of shared PCs in Building 100,
students are asked to limit each study session to a maximum of 3 hours including breaks.
Students are not permitted to ‘claim’ PCs unless they are physically present. If a student is away
from a PC for more than 30 minutes, they may be logged off, their belongings moved and other
students invited to use the PC.
WELLBEING
Building 100 is open to all RMIT students and the general public during business hours. Please
keep an eye on your belongings.
After hours, Architecture and Urban Design students can use their Student ID card to access the
building (workshop access is restricted during unstaffed hours for safety reasons) and use the
lifts.
Please manage your workload and wellbeing. Architecture and Urban Design students set high
standards for themselves and this can translate into working excessive hours. RMIT takes student
mental health seriously and provides a wide range of support services. Levels 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7
have spaces for students to take a break from their studies. We encourage students to take
periodic breaks from their work and from the building.
If you need to contact your Coordinator during your studies, you can also do so directly via email:
