HW1

According to the reference [1] the 125GW of energy in Turkey was economically viable in the year
2011. This means that this 125GW of energy was economically feasible, innovative and sustainable in
terms of investing financial resources into the project. The following calculations show the efficient
and economically viable energy that could be produce and the amount of oil saved in a year:

Economically Viable Energy = 125,000MW

Unused Hydro-Electricity = (100 - 34)/100 *Economically Viable Energy

= 8.25*10^10 W

Unused Efficient Hydro-Electricity = 0.84 * Unused Hydro-Electricity

= 6.93 * 10^10 W

1kWhr = 3600 kJ

Heating Value of Oil = 45,000/3600 kWhr/kg

= 12.5 kWhr/kg

Electrical Efficiency of Oil = 0.36

Electrical Energy = Heating Value of Oil * Electrical Efficiency of Oil

= 4.5 kWhr/kg

Number of Hours in a Year = 8760 hr

Electrical Energy Produced In A Hour = Electrical Energy / Number of Hours in a Year

= 5.14 * 10^-4 kW/kg

Kgs of Oil Saved = Unused Efficient Hydro-Electricity / Electrical Energy Produced In A Hour

= 1.35 * 10^11 kg
