Creating 1 HR 7 – 12th grade Creating Narrative in Music is a hands on course where students

the artist giving an example of a different work and a different
story. The students will be encouraged to create everything from
the abstract and Avant-Garde to the structured. In this course we
will talk about character, plot line, character development,
narrative, drama, and more.
Chamber 30 min All Ages Shawn is able to teach individual applied instrument and chamber
Music to 2 HR ensemble masterclasses. He focuses on interpretation, forming a
Masterclass unified sound, rehearsal and practice techniques.
Flute 30 min All Ages After the end of World War II, Japan became close allies with
Masterclass to 2 HR America over time. With that lead to a cultural exchange.
Composers and scholars went to Japan to study the indigenous
music i.e. Koto, Gagaku, and Shakuhachi. The traditional
techniques and sounds from these instruments soon infiltrated
our own sonic world, especially the flute. In the master classes, I
show flute players a range of extended techniques from the
Japanese perspective and help them create an authentic
interpretation of Japanese inspired works by Takemitsu,
Hosokawa, Fukushima, Miyagi and so on.

Open 45 min 9 – 12th grade This lecture/demonstration provides students with an inside look

Roundtable 1 HR 9th to 12th In this roundtable discussion, Shawn shares his experiences
