Lesson Intro (What will you say to get the students’ attention, communicate the lesson objectives, and motivate students
to achieve them?):
Everyday this week you are going to move through stations that relate to Dr. Seuss and reading week! Each
station has a theme that is related to a Dr. Seuss book. There are instructions at each station, I am going to have
you either read (3-5) or watch (K-2) the instructions when you get to each station. It is important that you read/
listen to the directions carefully to make sure you do each one correctly. I will be walking around to help if I see
some of you do not understand. But before I split you up into groups, I am going to briefly explain a few things.

Learning Objectives Assessment

Each objective should include: a) Performance (the For each objective include your procedure for
knowledge or ability the learner will gain as a result of this determining whether objectives have been met:
lesson), b) Conditions (under which the learner will
perform, and c) Criterion (the level of performance
considered acceptable):
1. perform and understand different types of gross motor skills rating scale & informal observation
in each station
2. focus on their fine motor skills, coordination, and balance rating scale & informal observation

3. have agility: move quickly and easily as well as think and rating scale & informal observation
understand what they read on the instruction cards quickly

4. play fair, follow directions, and work together with their rating scale & informal observation
team
5. understand when their body needs a break when it comes to self checking & informal observation
cardiovascular fitness and upper body strength
Safety considerations and/or modifications for special needs students:
stay in the boundaries of the station they are at ; when running during games, students should always keep eyes up and avoid laying on
the ground in order to avoid injury ; be gentle when tagging or touching other classmates ; when throwing objects, make sure nobody
is in the way ; play fair, help others if they need it, watch out for others… especially if they are blindfolded!!!

are to be read carefully by them before they play the game at each and I tell you to start
station looking at the directions.
• I will say that Ms. Cook and I will be walking around the Gym if there You all will have about a
are any questions, but because it is reading week, I will encourage the minute or two to go through
students to figure out how to play each game on their own and with the directions and then I

Closure (What will you say and do to help students recall the lesson objectives and recognize what they’ve learned? How
will you meet one or more of the following goals: review, accountability, cool-down, recognition, interpersonal communication,
future plans?):
Were you guys able to understand and do the activities at the stations after watching or reading the instructions on
your own with your group? What were some favorite stations you guys went to today? Why? Do you remember
what kind of exercises or movements that you did at some of the stations? Can I have someone name one or some?
Nice job today! You all worked well together on reading and participating in the Dr. Seuss inspired activities!
Reflective Comments (to be completed after the lesson):
I need to make sure, before I put the students in groups, that I show the boundaries for each station (especially for go dog go, 10
apples on top, green eggs and ham, & hop on pop). This is important because it will keep the students more organized and less likely
to move into others stations space and risking injury of themselves or other classmates.
Briefly explaining the activities, especially “what was I afraid of” before I send them off seemed to help the students better
understand what they are supposed to do at each station and minimized the time they stood around trying to figure out what to do.

Description of Activities

Horton Hears A Who

1. get with a partner
2. the first person from each team will stand inside a starting hula hoop that is on the ground and will hold one short pool noodle in
each hand
3. when the music starts, you must fast walk to the pile of “Who’s” (yarn balls) in the hula-hoop across from you and power walk back
to the hoop you started at
4. you will place the “Who” (yarn ball) in the bucket next to your starting hoop and pass the pool noodles to your partner and they will
repeat the activity
5. you will continue to play until all of the “Who’s” (yarn balls) are gone from the hoop that is across from you OR if the music stops
and it is time to clean up and get ready to move to the next station
6. if all of the “Who’s” (yarn balls) are gone from the hoop across from you … count how many each team has and see which one has
more. Then return them to the hoop across from your starting point and repeat the game
7. when the music stops, you will quickly reset your station and get ready to move to the next one
Green Eggs and Ham : Sam I Am Relay Race
1. each person will stand behind their own cone
2. next to each cone there is an orange bean bag, a spoon, and a wooden egg
3. you will each place a piece of ham (orange or yellow bean bag) on your head
4. you will each balance an egg on the spoon
5. you will race against the others at this station by going down to and around the cone that is across from you and back
6. if the ham (orange or yellow bean bag) or the egg falls from your head or the spoon, you must stop and put them back on and then
continue
7. you will continue to run this relay until it is time to switch and go to the next station!
8. when the music stops, you will quickly reset your station and get ready to move to the next one
The Lorax & the Once-Lers
1. Scattered throughout the playing area marked off by the cones are about 20 Frisbees (representing the Truffula Trees)
2. Half of the Frisbees/cones lying top side up and half of the Frisbees lying bottom side up(looks like a bowl)
3. In this game, 2 of you will be the Lorax and 2 of you will be the Once-lers
4. The Lorax wants to make sure the Truffula Trees are planted/standing up while the Once-lers want to make sure the Truffle Trees
are chopped down
5. When you begin, the Once-lers job will be to flip each Frisbees that is lying top side up over to look like a bowl and the Lorax’s job
will be to flip each Frisbees up (so it does not look like a bowl)
6. you will run from Frisbees to Frisbees and do your jobs
7. You are not allowed to use their feet to kick over Frisbees. You can only use your hands to flip the Frisbees over. I will be
watching and if I see you using your feet I will flip the frisbee back over to what it was before
8. you will continue to play until it is time to switch and go to the next station!
9. when the music stops, you will quickly reset your station and get ready to move to the next one
What Was I Scared Of
1. choose a partner
2. one of the partners will be blindfolded and standing on a poly spot
3. the other partner will be standing behind the blindfolded partner
4. the object of this game is to guide your partner to a pair of “ghost” pants that are the same color as the poly spot they were standing
on at the beginning.
5. you will try and get your partner to the pants and to get them to put them on themselves without any talking
6. the first pair or partners to locate the right color pants and put them on is the winner. Once the pants are on the race is over.
7. students will take off their blindfold and return the ghost pants to the original location and switch roles *blindfolded person will
become the guide and the guide will become the blindfolded person*
Here is how to guide the blindfolded partner:
• Partner A is Blindfolded while Partner B is guiding partner A
• Partner B will tap both of Partner A’s shoulders to get them to move in a straight direction
• To make Partner A go to the right, Partner B will tap Partner A’s right shoulder
• To make Partner A go to the left, Partner B will tap Partner A’s left shoulder
• To make Partner A stop, Partner B will gently put his/her hand on Partner A’s head
• To make Partner A bend over to pick something up, Partner B will gently tap Partner A’s forehead
Go Dog. GO!
1. One of you will start off being the tagger
2. The tagger will have a bean bag in their hand
3. If the tagger tags someone, he or she will drop the bean bag on the ground and is no longer the tagger
4. The person who was tagged will pick up the bean bag and is now the new tagger and will try and tag someone else
5. The bean bag may not and should not be thrown at any point in this game. The tagger will gently tag others on the back or the
shoulder and then drop the bean bag where he or she tagged a player. Do not throw it away from the person you tagged, that is not
playing by the rules.
6. you will continue to play until it is time to switch and go to the next station!
7. when the music stops, you will quickly reset your station and get ready to move to the next one
Ten Apples On Top
1. each person will stand behind their own cone
2. next to each cone there is a pile of 10 apples (small red or blue cones)
3. you will each start by placing one apple (small red or blue cone) on top of your head and walk heel to toe (like you're on a tight
rope) down to an orange cone and back
4. when you get back, you will place another apple (small red or blue cone) on top of your head and walk heel to toe to an orange
cone and back
5. you will repeat this process until you get 10 Apples On Top of your head!
6. if one falls off when you are walking, pick it up and place it back on your head and continue walking
7. you will race against the others at this station by walking down to an orange cone and back and see who can get to walking
successfully with 10 apples (small red cones) on their head
8. you will continue to run this relay until it is time to switch and go to the next station!
9. when the music stops, you will quickly reset your station and get ready to move to the next one
Hop On Pop
1. choose a partner
2. you and your partner will stand behind one of the cones
3. next to each cone is a hoppity hop ball that will be used
4. this is a relay. meaning that you and your partner will switch off being on the ball
5. the first person on each team will start sitting on the ball. You will bounce down and around the cone that is opposite from you.
You will then bounce back to the cone you started at.
6. Then you will get off of the ball and your partner will get on and do the same thing you just did
7. This will be repeated until each partner has bounced down and back on the ball 3 times
8. When each partner has done this, place the ball next to the cone and sit single file behind your cone
9. whichever team does this the fastest is the winner
10. you will continue to run this relay until it is time to switch and go to the next station!
11. when the music stops, you will quickly reset your station and get ready to move to the next one
1 Fish, 2 Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish
1. each person will stand on their own poly spot
2. next to each cone there is a pile of 3 hula hoops
3. across from each poly spot, there are three cones, one further away from the poly spot than the other
4. you will try and toss the hula hoops so they land around the cones
5. the cone closest to the poly spot is worth 1 point. the cone in the middle is worth 2 points. the cone that is the farthest is worth
three points
6. try to get as many points as you can!
7. before you go and get your hoops to play again, you must wait until everyone is done throwing all of their hoops
8. you will continue to play until it is time to switch and go to the next station!
9. when the music stops, you will quickly reset your station and get ready to move to the next one
