Tip # 3 -Composite results based on

Orientation/Thickness
Product: HyperView
Product Version: 110 and above

Topic Objective
To filter results of composite model based on orientation, thickness, ply number.

Topic Details
After running a composite optimization, it maybe necessary to find which orientation fiber
contribute how much thickness for applied loads and BCs. On the other hand it is also important
to know stress, strain, failure index, etc... for each ply of a specific load case.

For the optimization, analysis results are written to files named *_s#.h3d (static analysis results,
where # is the subcase ID), while the density, thickness and shape results are written to the file
*_des.h3d.

To view the density and thickness changes for a given orientation or for a ply, load the
*_des.h3d file in HyperView. Select the last iteration# in simulation area and change the result
type to Orientation thicknesses(s). Toggle the Layers field to desired fiber orientation.

Change the result type to Ply Thicknesses and toggle Layers to the desired ply number.

Similarly, you can also check the change in ply angle(s) for each ply, if you have optimized for
orientation.
Load the *_s#.H3D file to contour the structural analysis results. It is possible to view the
composite stress, composite strain composite failure (ply failure and bond failure) and failure
index for each ply and for structure as a whole for desired load cases.

In the Load Case Simulation Selection window above the results browser, select subcase in the
Load Case area and select the last ITER # in the Simulation area.

From results type chose composite failure (s), ply failure/bond failure and toggle to Layers to the
desired ply number to contour the failure result for the selected ply and click Apply.

Similarly, you can plot results for composite stress, composite strain, etc… for each ply.
