10th February 2010

Dear Parent/Guardian

Arrangements for Parents’ Evening for Year 10

You are warmly invited to the school on the evening of Tuesday 23rd February between 4.30-
7.30 p.m. to discuss your son’s work and progress with his teachers on an individual basis.

Your son will make appointments for you to see his teachers at five-minute intervals from 4.30 p.m.
and record them on the relevant page of his homework planner. There will normally be opportunities
for him to do this during lesson time over the next few days. He should ideally leave five minutes
between the end of one appointment and the beginning of the next so that you are able to make your
way between the different rooms in which teachers are based, but as most teachers are now based in
the Hall, this is becoming less of a problem. He should give you the completed form so that you can
bring it on the evening (it can be detached from the homework planner if you wish).

Inside the entrance to the main building there will be a list showing the rooms in which the teachers
will be found. Most teachers should be able to give your son information about their location at the
time of making the appointment. There will also be room plans of the building displayed around the
school. Many of the teachers will be placed alphabetically by surname around the Hall. I would be
grateful if you could tick the list of students next to your son’s name when you arrive and again
when you depart so we have up-to-date information on those attending the evening.

Your son is welcome to accompany you to any or all of the meetings with teachers (it is normal for
pupils to sit in on the meetings). He is not required to wear school uniform. To avoid appointments
being delayed as the evening progresses, the co-operation of everyone is requested to keep to agreed
times. If it becomes clear that matters arise which cannot be satisfactorily dealt with in five minutes,
it will be necessary to arrange a further meeting, correspondence or telephone conversation at a later
date.

In a few cases, for instance when two classes are taught by the same teacher, it may not be possible to
provide appointments for all parents. It is likely that a telephone call at a later date may be useful in
this case but it is important to remember that this is just one of the opportunities to discuss progress
and that we encourage parents to make full use of the homework planner or telephone/email/letters for
any issues that you may like to raise at other times during the year.

Car parking will be available in the main close via the Creffield Road entrance at the back of the
school. The CRGSA shop should be open throughout the evening and members of the CRGSA will
be serving refreshments in the corridor near the front entrance of the main school building.

We look forward to seeing you on the 23rd February, and hope that you have an informative and
useful evening.

Yours sincerely

Dr P. Jones
