HUMANITY TOWARDS OTHERS
While the world we are living in is under constant changes, there are
human values that must be uplifted and maintained. It is the role of
adults to impart these values to all children. While we try our level best
in the school to impart the important values, our efforts will not bear
any fruits without parental support. It requires the whole community to
bring up a well-mannered child. Let’s remember that our duty is to be
responsible, forward thinking and teach our children the right things
as we prepare them for the future. Do not be afraid to say “no”, at
times, for the good of your child.
Let us always remind our children to be polite by always saying
“Please,” “Thank you”, Excuse me” as these words are the foundation
of etiquette and good social skills. We also need to reinforce the same
message and values at school and at home.
While we always insist that our children must greet parents
appropriately, we also get reports of some who do not do so. We
should all take students to task when they do not do as expected.

BOUND-TEAM BUILDING COURSE
Lower Sixth Students went
to Outward Bound Camp (in
Chimanimani) for a Team
Building Course from Friday, 7
to Wednesday, 12 April 2017.
The course teaches students
some life skills that enable
them to deal effectively with
the demands and challenges of
everyday life. They also learn
collaborative skills that help them
to develop trust for each other.
The environment at Outward
Bound also allows students to be
creative as they solve problems
together in an imaginative way.
This will broaden their thoughts
and enable them to cope well
with the educational demands at
Advanced Level.

If the current support for
the children and the school
continues, then we would
indeed have one of the best
schools in the country. Let’s
continue to praise effort and
commitment much more than
results when supporting the
children.

INTERHOUSE SWIMMING GALA

We held our Interhouse Swimming Gala on Wednesday, 11 October
2017. Musasa House (yellow) emerged victors. We sincerely thank
all parents who came to support the children. However, we were
disappointed by the very low attendance by parents as compared to
that of the previous year. If we want Goldridge College to be one of
the best schools in Zimbabwe, we need to attend all events and give
full support to the children.

Both the Interhouse Competitions and the School Play

IT TAKES MY BREATH AWAY Empty vessels only here to survive,

But I still believe that our hope lies in the skies.
In this dystopian world all hope is lost, It may not be a way out,
We hang onto our sanity, But it’s a sight for sore eyes.
No matter the cost.
In a world where nothing remains, The night sky, so beautiful yet so tragic
Sagacity is the only thing left to save, The obsidian tapestry
But we are the walking dead, So chilling but majestic
With one foot already in the grave. A graveyard of stars looming right above me,
We have no reason to be alive, The cogs in the machine I call harmony

I’m enchanted, amazed by the ethereal illuminations When she comes back.
Now let me tell you the story, Embroidered with tiny apertures,
Of these perfect creations. Which the light forces itself through,
Threatening to make a reappearance,
The celestial bodies in a world of difference, In the midnight hue,
A conceited orb of radiance Bright white stars embedded in cobalt blue.
Praised by man for his obtrusive presence,
But even the narcissistic sun can show humility, At the first light of dawn,
For each day he embraces his temporary demise, Her elegance fades,
Is let the moon breathe, The sun is reborn,
And roam the skies Another beginning to a morose day.
A sinking violet, hiding behind the clouds,
Conceding her effulgence, I’m speechless,
Something for which she should be proud, For I have nothing to say.
But she only reveals herself when the sun dies. I’m breathless,
A rare bright sphere, Hypnotised by the mesmeric array,
The ultimate prize. For the beauty of the ether above,
Truly takes my breath away.

God be the glory.
Advice to My Young SELF
When I was in Upper 6, a photographer came to Goldridge. He
seemed happy and seemed to love what he was doing. Out of
curiosity I asked him why he seemed so happy and seemed to enjoy
every single moment of taking pictures of young college students who
couldn’t wait to leave the picture booth. His response “ I once had a
good paying corporate job in a big company but I was never happy,
my heart wasn’t in it and my family was miserable, I left that to take
up photography full time and I have never looked back. Now, I am
happy, my wife is happy and my family is happy. Now I don’t leave
home to go to work, I leave home to go to my passion” Moral: Find
a career/profession/ goal/passion that you love and you will never
work a single day in your life. Chase your dreams with everything
you have. You will fail occasionally but don’t let that stop you. Always
fail forward. Les Brown says “When you fail make sure you land on
your back, because if you can look up, you can get up”. You have
greatness in you, believe in yourself and you will achieve all that you
set out to do. More POWER!!! To you and God bless you.
