The Research Institute for Interdisciplinary Science (RIIS) pursues pioneering discoveries and
significant advances in fundamental science (physics, biology, chemistry, mathematics) and prac-
tical applications for a future sustainable society. RIIS consists of three divisions, focusing on the
quantum universe, photosynthesis and structural biology, and superconducting and functional
materials. Current RIIS research projects include (1) neutrino physics using laser spectroscopy, (2)
the fabrication of artificial photosynthesis systems (3) the design of superconducting materials,
and (4) the elucidation of the properties of energy storage materials.

Scholarship
—— The scholarship is given to complete doc-
tor course in Graduate School of Natural
Science, Okayama University, Japan, under
supervision of RIIS.
—— RIIS provides scholarship in form of Re-
search Assistant with average amount of
120,000 YEN / month (about IDR 15,500,000
/ month).
—— Scholarship awardee is expected to do a full-
time research as a doctor-course student in
Okayama University, Japan.
Qualification
The following qualification is required for the appli-
cants to be eligible to apply for the scholarship:
—— Hold master degree;
—— Have research background in natural science
fields. Preferrably the field that corresponds to
the research divisions in RIIS.
—— GPA ≥ 3.25 in undergraduate course, and GPA ≥
3.50 in master course (scale of 4.0)
—— TOEFL score > 500, or IELTS score ≥ 6.5.
—— Excellent communication skill in English
(will be examined during interview)

Selection Process
The selection process consists of three rounds:
—— First round (April 2018)
Documents review. Applicants must send the re-
quired documents by email (see application pro-
cedure). The results of this first-round selection
will be notified to all applicants through email.
—— Second round (May 2018)
Interview in RIIS, Okayama University, Japan. The
RIIS will provide a round-trip economy airplane
ticket for applicants that passed the first round
to visit Okayama University, Japan. Selected ap-
plicants is responsible to obtain a visa for short-
term visit to Japan from the Japanese embassy
or consulate general in Indonesia. The decision
for scholarship candidate is made in this round.
—— Third round (August 2018)
Doctor course examination. Scholarship candi-
date must pass the standard doctor course ex-
amination organized by Okayama University.
