Inorder to clear a building site, a contractor needs to hire earth-moving equipment. He has the choice of two types of backhoe, 4 and B. £ A moves 40 tonnes of soil per day, costs $50 per day to hire and requires 2 men to operate it. B moves 60 tonnes of soil per day, costs $20 per day to hire and requires 8 men to operate it. ‘The contractor, who has 128 men available, can spend a maximum of $1000 per day and use a maximum of 25 machines on the building site, (a) The contractor wants to find the maximum weight of soil that can be removed from the site ina day. Write down (the objective function that needs to be solved [3 marks] (ii) the inequalities involved in solving this problem. [7 marks] (6) On the graph sheet provided, (draw the lines required to show these inequalities [4 marks] (ii) shade the feasible region. [3 marks} (©) From your graph determine ()__ the number of EACH type of backhoe required to give the maximum weight of soil that can be removed in one day [6 marks] Gi) the maximum weight of soil that can be removed in one day.
