Convection Current (Part 1)
Two identical tubes are filled with water of the same volume, same initial temperature and
from the same source. Two identical alcohol lamps are used to heat the two tubes at two
different positions at the same time, one is heated at the bottom (Tube I) and other is
heated at the mid part (Tube II).

Q#1: In which tube the water will boil first? Explain your reasoning.

Q#2: In which tube the water will evenly be boiled? Explain your reasoning.

A lump of ice is trapped at the bottom of the boiling tube, held in place by a piece of wire
gauze. The water is heated by using an alcohol lamp close to the mouth of the tube.

Will the ice melt? Explain your reasoning.
