Large cystically dilated vessels

with thin walls

Intravascular thrombosis or
calcification is common

DEFINITION
Cavernous hemangiomas can arise nearly anywhere in the body where there are blood vessels
and are considered to be benign tumours. Most of the cases are due to congenital problem :(

ETIOLOGY

Mutation

Familial  autosomal dominant    

Related gene  CCM 1, CCM2, CCM 3 in chromosome 7q21.2 dan 7p13

EPIDEMIOLOGY, PREDILECTION AND VARIATION


Age : 30 – 50

Woman > Man

Since it can happen on any kind of vessel but there 3 somesay 4 predilection, they are :

Skin  called port wine nevus or nevus flammeus

Brain  called as cerebral cavernoma, located at white matter or brain’s cortex

You can divide the symptom by major and minor

Major

 Seizures due to the compression of the brain tissue or hemorrhaging of angioma scarring
surrounding tissue
 Stroke or intraparenchymal hemorrhage
 Double vision or other vision problems
 Language difficulties can arise
 Memory loss or attention problems
 Incidental hydrocephalus

Minor

 Headaches
 Weakness or numbness in the arms or legs
 Balancing problems

TX : Microsurgical resection GOLD STANDARD, Streotactic radiosurgery ( IF SURGERY IS

Liver
Called as Liver cavernous hemangiom
Mostly asymptomatic
TX :
- orthotopic liver transplantation: is occasionally offered to symptomatic patients with
large or diffuse lesion
- hepatic irradiation:
- surgical ligation of feeding vessels

Eye
Called as eye cavernosus hemangiom
Woman > Men
Asymptomatic until the optic nerve is compressed 
Major

 As the tumor grows and involves the extraocular muscles and optic nerve, patients
report double vision and decreased vision
Minor

 Painless, progressive proptosis


TX : dissection , and lateral orbitotomy if the tumor is large :o

Character and prognose : Benign and benigna
