1. Describe what image the evangelist uses to portray Jesus.

2. Express the Good News.
3. Then, describe how the person in the passage responded to Jesus.

• Mark 1:40–42
Image of Jesus & the Good News

Jesus is portrayed by the evangelist as the Son of God and healer. The good
news refer to the miracles, wonders and signs he performed in healing the
leper and the compassion he had for the sick people. His miracle of healing
demonstrates his compassion for those who are suffering. He serves as our
perfect example, to follow in his footsteps.

Response of the healed man

The man was so happy and grateful of his healing that even if he was
instructed by Jesus not to tell anyone, he spread the good news of his healing
to everyone. He became a living testament of Jesus’ compassion and makes
the people to have faith and believe in Jesus more.

Luke 10:38–42
Image of Jesus & the Good News

Jesus is portrayed by the evangelist as Peace. The Good news refer to his
message that we should not worry about so many things, but should instead
have faith, pray and listen to God’s message. To pray is to take time to listen,
to meditate in silence on the word of God.

Response of Mary

Mary has chosen the better part of following Jesus. She sat down at Jesus’ feet
and listened to him. She was able to take hold of the brief moments that she
can be with Jesus. She learned to have faith and follow Jesus’ example.
Mark 8:27–30
Image of Jesus & the Good News
Jesus is portrayed by the evangelist as the Son of Man. The good news refer to
the coming of the promised Savior who will have to die on the cross to bring
forgiveness and salvation to mankind. He will also come to judge all people
and to rule all nations.
Response of Peter

Peter responded that Jesus is the Messiah. Peter discover that Jesus is God’s
anointed or consecrated one. The long awaited Savior who will come to save
the world and mankind from sin and trespasses.

1. Describe what you think it challenges you to believe about Jesus. 2. Finally,
describe how you could meet that challenge.

John 20:24–29
• The challenge

Just like Thomas, our challenge is believing in Jesus even we don’t see Him. A lot of
times in our life, we want to see it before we actually believe it. Thomas refused to
believe in the resurrection until he saw the risen Lord for himself.

My response

We should have faith in Jesus knowing that He will meet us wherever we are
on our life’s journey. He knows that in our walk of faith, we will face many
challenges. We just have to trust and pray to the him as we encounter the
different trials in our life, He will be there to save and guide us every step of
the way. We should learn to walk by faith and not walk by sight.

Luke 6:37–42
37 “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be
condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven; 38 give, and it will be given to you.
Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into
your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

39 He also told them a parable: “Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not
both fall into a pit? 40 A disciple is not above his teacher, but everyone when he
is fully trained will be like his teacher. 41 Why do you see the speck that is in your
brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye? 42 How can you
say to your brother, ‘Brother, let me take out the speck that is in your eye,’ when
you yourself do not see the log that is in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take
the log out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to take out the speck
that is in your brother's eye.

The challenge

The challenge of not judging or condemning others. It is dangerous to make

pronouncement or judgment about other people. If we are not careful, we can
slander or criticize them in public. We run the risk of misjudging others.

My Response

I will apply the principle of “We should not do to others what we don’t want
others to do to us”. We need to understand that everyone has his own strength
and weaknesses. We should avoid gossiping since gossiping slanders a
person’s good name with no way for him to defend himself. Before we make
bad pronouncement on other people, we need to check the factual
circumstances first before we jump into conclusions. We need to follow Jesus’
example in leading his disciples.
